Post by: lillPiP on April 08, 2006, 10:27:13 PM
Any news?
Also a dead project?

I don´t know much about it but since this board is based on the Prometheus and they say "What remains to be done is some more quality testing as well as adaption of drivers for other types of PCI cards, including soundcards." then I think it will take a lot of time to devellop those drivers as there need to be more than OpenPCI can support. Probably at the moment only the Voodoo3 and S3Virge and Fortemedia and RTL8029 cards will be supported and to create some competition with Elbox they will need to support a bit more. Please correct me if I am wrong ....

Looks like a PCI slot on a Zorro card, right? Why not just use Prometheus or Mediator?

Our main problem is that one of the programmers did drop out for private reasons, leaving a gap to be closed. This did hit us unexpected, but we're working on this issue.

Nope, also the 8139 drivers are working. As well as the EHCI drivers from Guido Mersmann for Poseidon.

In contrast to products from this company we are able to support more PCI cards in hardware, as the DaVinci is not a crippled PCI design. Moreover it is planned to publish all necessary programming information for everyone, without any NDA or other barriers (like it was done for Prometheus).

Michael : please don´t get me wrong, I never meant to say it´s a "crippled PCI design" !! I have two Prometheus boards myself and do not regret it (still need to install them) and I know the Prommy could use 8139 cards when DMA was fixed.
I am interested in the board because I feel the Elbox prices are far too high as there is almost no competition  :madashell: So the sooner your boards gets out the better  :-)

great news! that's very nice! :-)

What about soundcards? does Martin Blom's openpci SBLive driver work?

That means that it won't be mandatory to use the gfx card ram as dma buffer? That would allow to make much easier supporting Prometheus on OS4/MOS, because as you will understand, MOS/OS4 coders probably won't like the idea of changing each driver to support extrange classic solutions, regardless of these solutions working faster or not.

I guess that the best idea would be to allow coders to use both methods:
1.-implement real DMA even if it's slower on Z3 than using the gfx card ram but as it's more compatible it would be the default DMA transfer method so OS4/MOS coders wouldn't need to rewrite any driver
2.-optionally allow the use of the gfx card ram to store

BTW, do you plan to provide OS4/MOS drivers for your products?

nTH=(n-1)+(n-2)

I had never even heard of DaVinci until I saw this thread.

Anyway, I'd like to see drivers for MPEG2 decoder cards.  It's something Elbox has been promising since Adam were a lad and never delivered.  I'd like to be able to watch DVD's on a classic Amiga.

Keep good work. Can you tell as realise-sale date? :-)

Always nice to hear about projects in the works. Looking forward to this one :-)

@ motorollin

I think the advantage of this board is that it only takes up one or two Zorro slots and doesn't require major surgery to coexist with Zorro bords. This is important for me since I have a DelfinaLite board that I want to keep because of its MPEG decoding capabilities.
