Title: A500 and 1MB Fatter Angus
Post by: -BobW- on April 03, 2006, 03:08:13 AM
I picked up a Rev 5 amiga 500 from ebay the other day.  While checking the motherboard I noticed that someone had done the hack to enable a 1MB Fatter Agnus (8372A).  The problem is the motherboard doesn't have a 1MB Agnus. :-( There is only a 8370 Agnus installed.

So, I'm stuck with an A500 that pukes every time the upper 512K is addressed...

Does anyone know where I can find an Agnus 8372A?  Do I have any other options besides try to reverse the hack?

Softhut (http://www.softhut.com/cgi-bin/test/Web_store/web_store.cgi?page=catalog/hardware/custom_chips/chip_agnus.html&cart_id=558073_508) has them. I think it's weird to sell an A500 with the wrong Agnus in it as it won't work. But besides that or reversing the hack there are no options, I think.

My guess is the guy that did the hack didn't really understand what was required.  Either that or the Agnus was swapped out at some later point.

I saw those chips at Softhut.  A little bit pricy.  I could get another A500 from ebay for that much.

I had some spare agnus'es around somewhere. Salvaged them from dead a500's. I'll let you know if I find them.
