Title: Setting up WinUAE to use AHI for OctaMED Soundstudio..

Is there an easy way to install AHI under uae so Octamed can take advantage of my pc sound card?

Ive looked for guides but not found any so all help would be appreciated!

I don't think it works on WinUAE, althoug I could be wrong...

-> Install OS3.9. (OS3.1 might be ok too)

-> download latest stable AHI for 68K systems: http://www.lysator.liu.se/ahi/

-> Install AHI
-> Copy "uae.audio" (included in the Winuae package) to sys:devs/AHI
-> Copy "uae" (included in the Winuae package) to sys:Devs/AudioModes

now all AHI-Programs can be routed to UAE-Ahi device (which is your PCs Soundcard)


-> Install and start TheMaestrix (http://aminet.net/package.php?package=util/libs/TheMaestrix.lha)
This piece of software emulates the API of a Maestro Soundcard (http://amiga.resource.cx/expde/search.pl?id=maestropro) and is important because originally OSS is not able to play through AHI. If you choose "Maestix 16-bit" in Octamed Soundstudios Mixing-Routines-Selector, OSS "thinks" you have a "Maestro Soundcard" due to "TheMaestrix" running in the background. "TheMaestrix" plays through the standard AHI-Device.

-> Install and start Octamed Soundstudio
-> choose Maestix 16-bit in the MixingSettings

ive installed AHI, but when i try to configure it, it askes for openpci.library verson 1..  I have installed verson 2 of this from here (http://bvernoux.free.fr/DevPCI.php#download)

Ok.. ive now installed os 3.9 and have the ahi setting gui appear with no problems at all.  I choose UAE 16bit HiFi, and Amp seems to play a mp3 file ok.  However i can get no audiable sound, and the volume option in the AHI settings is ghosted out when UAE 16bit is selected.. :-?

Please remember that Octamed SoundStudio was created years before AHI ever existed.

Ok. Ive got AHI working perfect in UAE, and Amp is playing lovley sounding mp3`s!.

I have installed TheMaestrix and octamed is playing through my soundcard! only thing is sound is very jittery when playing modules etc.. :-(

Doh! Checked troubleshooting... of course, increase buffer size!..

Octamed Soundstudio is now 16bit on my PC!. 8-)

Congratulations!

Did you find any sneaky way that I could play
my Octamed SoundStudio mods thru AHI
from within my Aminet Game?

I use Octamed SoundStudio v1.0c for all game mods
for many years.

It seems to take all the power of a 2Ghz PC to play the
mods thru Paula correctly on UAE.

Would wildly reduce CPU load if you/I/we could play
them thru AHI.
