Hi there,
I have OS 3.9 on CD, and an A1200 with no CD drive running Workbenck 3.1 and Kickstart 3.1.
The A1200 is connected to my PC by a serial cable.
My question is, how on earth do I install OS 3.9 onto my A1200 with no CD drive?
Thank you for your help.

You could copy all files from the CD to your Amiga's HDD, but with a serial connection this could last very long.
The quickest way probably is to connect the Amiga's HDD to the PC and use WinUAE to install OS3.9 on it.
Or conect a CD-ROM drive to your Amiga. Officially a CD-ROM drive is a prerequisite for OS3.9.

you have to connect a cdrom drive (they are cheap these days) or if you have a laptop buy a cf to pcmcia (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=440&osCsid=8ccd4b6bca6e0e5dbeeeec5ba0b5c9ac) adaptor and a card flash more than 512mb and copy at the laptop the files from cd to the card flush and then to the amiga hard disk. then install. this method is more expencive than to bye a cdrom dive though... but you can use it to transfer files from amiga to laptop and back in general use.

I installed OS3.5 on my A3000 from the CD in my PC's drive and using a Siamese serial connection. It took ages, but it did work.

Installer Os3.9 look for CD .3.9
Installer for BB1+BB2 look for CD

That's not true. All installers look for a drive named AmigaOS3.9 with the files from the CD on it. This could as well be an assign pointing to a HDD directory or a network share.

Hi
I guess the question has to be why buy a CD to run on an Amiga when your Amiga has no CD drive. One issue that I can think of is the creation of the Emergency Boot Disk which creates details of your CD settings so you can boot from the floppy and CD.
Anyway... Forget the PC.
Get a Squirrel Interface off the PCMCIA or a SCSI Kit and a Blizzard accelerator, and do your A1200 the power of good by getting the CD hooked up to your 1200. You can also add a string of SCSI devices to your A1200. That way you get the full benefit of the OS3.9 CD and software plus the opportunity to acquire other Amiga CD titles to use on the Miggy.
I have a CDRom drive, ZIP drive and two external SCSI hard drives attached to the A1200. If you have a burner on your PC then you can create disks and take them over to the Amiga CDRom drive. Much faster than that serial cable, goodness me.
Once you have an interface, Squirrel or PCMCIA there is the opportunity to use all types of SCSI devices. Just do a search on Ebay for External SCSI and see what comes up.
Realise the potential of your A1200, and use it as it was meant to be used under OS3.9.
