Title: DivX on Amigas with PPC?
Post by: AmiDelf on April 22, 2003, 03:55:18 AM
I am wondering, whats the best divX player for PPC Amigas? For me it seems like SoftCinema is the fastest one. FroggerNG is a bit slower than SC, but both skips frames a lot. But not the sound!...

Is there anyone here wich have seen a whole divx movie on their Amiga?

Amp2, MooVId, Softcinema and Frogger can play DivX movies. If you want the best performance I suggest use the Softcinema powerup version _without_ ppclibemu.

Amp and Frogger is better in knowing much more formats (mpg, etc.), and only frogger has a Pegasos native version.

I have to mention MooviD, as it's pretty stable, unlike for example Frogger. Not the fastest, but a very decent player. The skip routines were made using a 604e, so on anything else it may not be that perfect.

hello.
i just have 1 question.
now i dont use my amy for playing DivX, but i was wondering if one could use Nimo Codec Pack with the Amiga.

So that you can get the newest codecs

If it's available as external codec for xanim on LinuxPPC, it might work with Frogger, too. If it's compiled for Intel x86 only, of course it won't run on PPC processors.

PPC Equipped "Classic Amigas" can easily play low resolution (320x200) AVI's, maybe skipping some (but not too many) frames now and then.

On larger resolutions, Frogger skips most frames (unless you add NOSKIP tooltype, which disables frameskip and sound)

AMP2 seems more stabile, but has no frameskip, instead, it skips the sound...

Larger resolution AVI's are really too much for any classic Amigas, unless you're ready to sacrifice sound (Frogger) or make it skip a lot (AMP2)

But on 600MHz G3... They run very nicely :-)
