A good low starting price, but you may have problems locating an A1000 keyboard, plus shipping might be high.

And I'm not quite sure how the seller has heard a hard drive booting! :-)

I've already got 2 A1000's but neither of mine have an internal hard drive.   :roll:

Most likely the seller hears the floppy drive being detected on startup.  In any event, there were a number of hacks for the A1000 that included installing internal hard drives or modems.  Most of the hacks involved removing the internal shielding to free up space.

I used to have an A1000 with an internal 9600 modem that was a very big deal back in 1987.  8-)

why are so many a1000s missing their keyboards and mice?
it is possible to build an ide interface and put a drive internally. all 3rd party commercial drives were epansion slot stuff.

@Ltstanfo:

Heh! Speedy modem, but nice to have it internal!

I think back in 1987, the only modems I'd seen were split rate 1200/75 ones, where on most BBSs I could type faster than the modem could send! :-)

The reason is back when the A2000 first came out, Commodore had a trade up program. You would turn in your A1000 keyboard (thus making your A1000 inop) and you would get like ~$1000 off the price of a new A2000 system!  What a great deal!!!! :P

Yeah, should be easy to hang an IDE bus from the 68000 socket!

Exactly, and no one ever found out what happened to those keyboards...

Although technically the A1000's keyboard interface is exactly the same as those used on the A2000/3000/4000 so it is only a matter of obtaining two connectors and wiring them up to make an adapter... I tried it and it works perfectly.

actually an ide adapter off the 68000 socket is pretty easy. the 68000 is pretty big after all and the board is small even if wirewrapped.
i totally forgot about the tradeup program, it makes sense i guess, not having people trade in a keyboard making the rest of the system crippled i mean, but that being why there are so many 1000s without keyboards
