Hi all, cant get hold of Aminet, can any one else?
Mike.
-
Have you tried any of the mirrors?
-
Yes I tried http://68k.aminet.net/
Same problem.
Mike.
-
I tried http://ftp.uni-bremen.de/aminet/browse.html
Stil has the old GUI but it works partly. Seems a lot of files are missing on this server.
http://ftp.sunet.se/~aminet/ seems to be working normal.
-

No, it's not. If you search for anything, you get:
"ERROR: Could not connect to find server"
Ironically, when I tried to post this, Amiga.org was down. (had to wait 20 minutes)
-
First back to the roots now Aminet. Is the end finally here for the Amiga
-
The end has come and gone several times for Amiga over the years
I can get to www.aminet.net now.

Our Web-server crashed yesterday. No big deal, it just had to be restarted. Aminet isn't going to die anytime soon.

:-D

I notice that the default page has been switched to the search. Which means every visit I must click on the recent link. I would have thought that the recent additions is a better start page? Certainly for me. What do others think?

Personally, I don't keep very up to date, so I usually go to the search page first, looking into particular subjects.
Can you just bookmark the page you want?
-

The default page is still "Recent". What url are you visiting?
-
Seems that if you use www.aminet.net then you get search as default. If you use just aminet.net, you get the recent list.

Wrong. buzz is right on this. I'm accessing the main www site.
EDIT: Oh, uncharted made a post about this. So, nevermind.
There is another problem with the main FTP site, today. Accessing the site in ADT mode doesn't work
-
aminet.net points to recent, www.aminet.net points to search.
@cgutjahr: is there any chance to get the "uploads since last visit" function of the old interface back ?
Bye,
Thomas
-
I had Exactly the same reaction. I like the Recent page as default. at the very least making it user configurable is better than forcing people into the search page. not that I don't like the search. I just like the recent page. It's like window shopping. I get to look over the new stuff uploaded before I go and look for something in particular.

the link here on amiga.org (on the left <--) shows it's http://www.aminet.net/
however that redirects to http://aminet.net/search.php?
it's that redirection that's the "problem"
-
Time to download Aminet again. Just to be sure... :-P
-
How do you download a whole website?!?!
-
drewz21 wrote:

Typically about two files at a time. :-P
Seriously though, it was a joke. The Aminet is several gigabytes.
-
LOL! Ok, jokes on me. :)

30 gigabyte right now.
@all:
Sorry about the redirecting thing, we messed something up when changing our server setup. Will be fixed rsn.

Hm, good idea. I'll add it to the todo list (which is rather long though, i.e. don't hold your breath) and check what the others think about it.
How about another option in setup: "Make RECENT only show files since last visit yes/no"?
-
actually i like seeing the whole list of Recent files. sometimes i check out a file I did look at yesterday. sometimes I look at a file I ignored yesterday.....I find looking at aminet very relaxing. ok, that sounds odd, but that's how I feel :-D
-
Since we're in suggestion mode -
The architecture filtering is a great function, but how about making the tiny icons at the top of the front / recent pages into links to their specific architecture?
I tried emailing this when the feature first appeared, but it went undelivered.
Cheers

I'm not sure I get what you say. Do you want to click on one of the architecture icons to reload the current page but this time only showing the packages that match the architecture you selected?
-

Sorry, I completely missed that one.
Could you be more precise? What doesn't work (search? recent?, MOTD?, dir listings?) and which client are you using?
I'll have a look at it, though I'll have to install an ADT client first, can't boot into OS3 right now.

Well, I did actually download aminet once. Just for the heck of it. Takes about five hours... :-D

Yes, exactly.

Just signed up, spotted this topic, scared the crap out of me!
Cheers! :-D

Well, i'll have to apologise too, because i also missed your post somehow. :-D
I'm using ATC but i can't give you any details right now because ALL the servers that i have tried are dead at the moment i'm writing this. I'll have to try later. Iirc, searches didn't work but i'm going to check it when the servers are back, to be sure.
-
Right, servers are back. All ADT functions are working except of Search and Charts. If others doesn't have this problem, then i need some advice on how to configure ATC properly.
-
Odd, cos I'm getting "we are having problems with our database" messages and cant access Aminet at all...
-
http://www.aminet.net/ works "degraded".
-
Aminet has been dead since approx. 7/1/07.
I can't upload via the site, & I can't upload via FTP. Most of the mirrors are down. The only site that sems to still be up is uk.aminet.net, and they only have old downloads (ie. before 7/1/07).
Aminet is such an important resource for the Amiga community that it is vital that it stays up 100%. I thought that the mirrors were supposed to ensure complete availability, however, uploading via uk.aminet.net doesn't work either (no Type field), and in any event uploads don't seem to be propagating.
Can we at least get an estimate of the length of this outage so that we can decide whether to start to start another Amiga PD site?
-
I emailed the admins a couple of days ago.
Got a couple of replies. The gist is that it's a combination of software and hardware problems, the fact that they are busy with other things and have little time, and that the cause of the problem has not been identified.
I offered my help, but got no reply as of yet.
-
omg if aminet dissapeared I dont know how I would cope
-
http://ftp.sunet.se/~aminet/ seems to be working normal.
...does not work at the moment (at least not here)
//Azvareth
edit:
...but!
http://ftp.sunet.se/ has a link to http://se.aminet.net/ that redirects (at the time being) to http://www.aminet.net/ so is this mirror gone?
-
Well, it was back for a while and now..
Unable to connect to database
-
It's working again here...
