Title: Idea for a business?
Post by: stopthegop on March 17, 2006, 04:35:00 PM
Hello,
I have an idea for a possible business.  It would require a network of trustworthy people from different parts of the world willing to work part-time on consignment.  I thought of this after reading all the reports of people paying high prices for things like broken Cyberstorm cards on ebay that were deceptively advertised as "working" and unloaded under the rubric, "as is".  What I'm thinking is basically this:  A business that acts as a buyer's advocate in such situations.  The "buyer's advocate" could visit the site from where it is being sold, record the SN, verify its functionality, etc.. Then issue a small, honest assessment of the findings to the potential buyer(s).  After a reasonable fee has been paid, of course.  Granted, the need for people to do such work for only vintage computer hardware is limited, but I see no reason why the same concept couldn't work for a wide range of products bought and sold online, incl. Real Estate, cars, golf clubs, artwork, antique furniture, high end electronics, pool cues, and, of course, rare computer hardware.  And just about any other high priced item you could think of.  Does this sound viable to anyone?  It was just a thought...  :)  Maybe too much caffeine.  :)
