Title: Turning ADF files back into Disks
Post by: irishmike on March 15, 2006, 04:34:51 PM
Hello All:

I have heard of a few people talking about how to get ADF files back into Floppies.  I am wondering about this process, as the ADFs currently reside on my PC and the Amiga as of yet is not even networked to it in any way.   Also I find I can buy regular HD/DS floppies still, but none of the 720K kind that IIRC Amiga uses?  Anyhow, I have Cloanto's Amiga Forever and I have the A3000 and wondered how one would go about transferring the ADFs to Amiga Floppies?  If you can help please feel free to post here or pmail me is acceptable.  If there is a "HOWTO" someplace on the net, would love a URL to it as well.

Thanks,

Mike

On the PC you can turn ADF files directly to proper Amiga disks (and vice versa) with the popular Catweasel MK4 (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=206)

Even the aminet  has NO explanation how to use whats online lha, adf, lzx ?????? on an standard amiga ???????no way(if i must believe aminet it must work like it is ??)
Does not work like this on an amiga even the program for converting lha has not a propper way how to use it shame shame shame...
And why not a workbench style program afd=>amiga disk klick ready...........easyer..better and no angry people  !!

You are quite welcome to make one.

EDIT: here... http://www.aminet.net/package.php?package=disk/misc/adfblitzer.lha

personally, "transdisk -w disk.adf" (or whatever it was) is enough.

have you ever thought to upgrade your at least 12 years old amiga to 21 century? to buy a usb module for example or to connect her to a network or use a pcmcia2cardflash or, or, or...

-edit-
you can connect a cdrom drive and write cd's to a pc too...
i use all the previus methods. i started once buying a cdrom.
by the time i have made/add all these kind of upgrades

As amije has said, PCMCIA Compact Flash adapter (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=440) is a good way of transferring a large amount of data between an A1200 and a PC very easily and quickly.

@fastrene:

Large files: Make multi-volume (=multi-disk) archive files (.lha .zip .whatever). Slow, but works.

paralell cable: PC2Amiga from aminet should be pretty easy to use.

Return codes: The amount of return codes you are receiving, indicates that you have some software problems (missing libraries, devices, wrong tooltypes in icons), possibly caused by buggy crossdos moving.
Are you moving the actual .lha archives from your pc to your Amiga and then unpack them on the Amiga, or do you unpack them on the pc and then move the extracted files to the Amiga via 720kB DOS-disks? The latter is known to cause problems.

A very good GUI-based archive unpacking tool is included with OS3.9, or you can also use lha in CLI (text) mode, download the latest from aminet as a self-extracting archive.

yes the poseidon usb stack that is already registered at 2.x version when you buy a subway usb. it's too cool for much more things to use than only data transfer.

i use this (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=32&products_id=116&osCsid=79ea4153940a646beafe9b391ffb590c)
card and except the internet connection with the adsl modem i  can use all the shared drives from pc network to transfer files from pc to amiga and amiga to pc. it's a grate piece of hardware/software too.
