Hi,
The 23-15pin adaptor only lets you use special "multi-sync" monitor, if your looking to use normal PC monitors you need a Scan doubler.
Try www.softhut.com who sell the toasterscan

thanks for the info i do have a vga that synchs down to 15.X.

If you can't locate an adapter (SVGA to Amiga RGB) we have them in stock here:

No, you can use a regular VGA monitor. Though you can only use the 31.5 KHz screen modes. This is how I currently have my A1200 hooked up. I initally had to use a TV on the composite outpost to set it to the hight frequency screen mode.

A not so completly ontopic question, but does anyone know of a list of monitors brands/models that are capable of syncing down as low as the native refresh rate of the amiga?
-
does the A1200 -> VGA adaptor have any circuitry inside it, or is it strictly wiring (ie: I could make my own)?
-
You can make you're own.
Did it once last century.
Google for schematics if you can't find it on Aminet

There is a chip inside, but I believe it's only needed if you plan on doing any genlocking. A straight-through cable should work for a simple display
-
I seem to recall the electronics in the adapter was just a buffer. I'm guessing that monitors would present pretty high input impedances, so not buffering the signal should be OK.
edit- I've never used an adapter, home made or otherwise.

The problem is getting hold of 23-pin D-Plugs - they are very scarce.

I hacked together a cable by milling down a DB-25 to DB-23. It worked for the short time I was waitng for my real cable to arrive.

PCB Mounted ones are but solder bucket "panel mount" ones are easy to find.. in fact I stock them :-)
