Heya all
Today I got my copies of OS 3.5 and 3.9 from Vesalia.
So I tried to install it over my OS 3.1 on my A1200 which has a 1230 Turbocard with 32 ram.
First I tried to install OS3.9 but whnever I choose the install new and click continue it greys out for a moment but nothing happens...
And well same for OS 3.5 when I try to install the new install it tells me to run the pre-install first but that gives the same error, it just blinks but does not continue.
So I tried to reinstall OS 3.1 but the installation stops with "Cannot copy file in line 4519, Unable to access file or drawer, object in use"
So I'm really smacked down :( I waited weeks for the new OS to finally arrive and now it seems to be not working.
Anyone got any idea on what I could do?
Any help is appreciated

the standard process in both cds is to make first an Emergency floppy disk, then boot from this floopy with the cd in the drive, and after boot, run the normal instal from cd. did you made this Emergency floppy?
why you bought both? os3.5 is part of 0s3.9 cd.
just use the 3.9. make the floppy and go on. what brand is your turbocard? do you have any ide/scsi extra hardware connected on amiga? sometimes this bring some troubles.
-edit-
here (http://www.gregdonner.org/) you can find more usefull instructions :)
-
I made that boot disk for 3.9 but when I boot the amiga with it it gives me error that volume OS3.9 is write protected (even it's not) and stops there. :(
Edit: The Turbcard is a Phase 5 1230 IV and no there are no SCSI kits or anyting the CD-ROM is on the same cable like the IDE HD, using IdeFix97 to run the CD rom.
-
maybe you accidendaly try to install to the cd drive? what is the name/volume of your hard disk boot partition?
-
As I see here: DH0 System
Maybe this helps: When I boot the amiga with the emergency disk I get the following error (after a while of loading):
Volume AMiga OS 3.9 is write protected (The install CD I take)
And in the AmigaDOS I get the following error: Can't find RAM:T
-
ok, try this: run a shell from the emergency disk and type:
makedir ram:t
assign t: ram:t
close the shell and run again the installer.
probably it's trying to find the t: (temporary) directory on the cd and gives you the error.

Hi,
be nice litle Barbarian :-D and follow me :
Take OS3.5 CD
Go to drawer \OS-Version3.1\Workbench3.1
and copy all the files (Save your "S" first !!) over your files !!
Then try to reinstall it with the proper Installer !
The same can be done for OS3.5,
Go to the drawer OS-Version3.5\First-Install
and copy all the files.
reboot
then go to the drawer \OS-Version3.5\Workbench
and copy all the files (Save your "S" first !!) over your files !!
Then try to reinstall it with the proper Installer !
Same for OS3.9 :rtfm:
This how I do with WinUAE and how I quicky prepare my hdd for my miggyes
-
Wah!
How do I open a shell? Please forgive as I'm pretty new with all the Amiga things :)
Explain as you would explain it to a first time user :p
And where do I copy all the files to? And what's saving my "S"?
-
in the emergency disk in the directory system, it's a program called shell. click twise to run it. it will appear a dos prompt. in this prompt type
makedir ram:t
press enter
assign t: ram:t
press enter
endcli
press enter
and run the installer
-
The problem is I can't even reach WB with the emergency disk as it stops with the above mentioned error and if I hit cancel I land in a bare WB screen with no options icons or anything.
But thanks for the help so far! You're the one giving me faith in all this

The emergency boot disk isn't needed in order to install 3.5 or 3.9. As long as the CDROM driver is installed, it's possible to install OS3.9 from the booted harddrive.
Just a stupid question; have you Kickstart 3.1 installed in the machine???
-
Yes it says Kickstart version 39.106
-
wrong answear!!!
you have the 3.0 rom
you need 3.1 to install os 3.5 or/and 3.9
.........................................
-
Doh! Well ok I need to get 3.1. How do I know it's a 3.1 from the ouside of the chip?
-
amigakit rom3.1 (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=62&osCsid=d618cf6f6eef99d137e9fcafce923275) the version of 3.1 rom is 40.68
-
Ok thanks everyone looks like I made a huge fool out of myself :( I'm gonna order and put those new Kickstarts in and try again then.
Thanks everyone!!!
-
good luck :-)

Remember to take notes of the way the 3.0 chips are installed before you replace them, cos the sockets have more pins than the chips! Put them in wrong and you could end up frying your new 3.1 ROMs. :-o
-
I just installed the 3.1 ROMs
I actually had a old spare A1200 laying around that I hotwired by accident :( But I saw it still had the 3.1 roms and well they worked and as I write this OS is getting installed on my amiga behind me :) !
Thanks again!!!
-
that's more than a lucky situation you know :)
bad for the old a1200... i have 2 in a similar condition from friends, but they have the 3.0 rom both!!!
