I have connected my hard drive and can hear it. But the screen stays black and then after a short while it boots with the kickstart screen. I have tried useing hdtools to detect and install it but it cant find it.
-
What kind of Amiga, what interface, what harddisk, what other peripherals do you have connected.
-
Its a 351mb hd, and im trying to set it up on a standard amiga 1200.
-
Does it show up in the Early Startup Menu (hold both mouse buttons when reseting the Amiga)
Does it have any drive selection jumpers on it- these usually need to be removed.
Also did you make the drive bootable in HDToolbox?
-
The drives that show up in the Early Startup menu are the following:
DF0:
CC0:
I have no jumer settings on it and HDTools didn't detect it.
-
Hm, sounds like a master/slave jumper set wrong (Are you really sure there aren't any jumpers on the HD? If it's a 2,5" the jumpers can be rather tiny). Is there any table printed on the HD saying stuff like MA/SL/CS, also is it a 3,5" or 2,5"? You can boot to WB from floppy I understand?
-
If HDToolbox did not recognise the drive, that means either the drive is defective or you need a replacement 2.5" drive cable (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=365) or the cable isn't properly fixed in.
Check that the drive cable is firmly in place on the motherboard and the drive is firmly connected. Ensure that the drive connector isn't displaced over the pins.
-
There are no jumpers and its a 2.5 drive. I have also checked the ide cable and it is connected properly.
-
It is probably defective then.
Another possibility is that it could be slow to startup-some old drives startup slower than the Amiga's IDE interface takes to recognise them. This problem was fixed with Kickstart 3.1
Have you tried doing a warm reset and then testing it? You can also cut pin 1 on the IDE cable to compensate for slow drives.
-
I got it working! Do you know the ide cabe was upside down.
Thanks everyone for your help. :-)
Amiga.org is great!

lol, sounds like my first experience with connecting a harddrive to an Amiga (A1200)
It´s amazing to see how much punishment an Amiga can take without anything saying poof :D
