Title: Elbox Mediator 4000Di + A3000 = ?
Post by: da9000 on March 03, 2006, 01:40:01 PM
Simple question.. would an Elbox Mediator 4000Di (destined for A4000 desktop machines) function in an A3000 desktop? Yes, no, maybe?

NOTE: I mean electrically, NOT physically.

I think the answer is BOOM. Look at the schematics and you'll see they are not the same.

No chance. The A3000 daughterboard has electronics on it that the A4000 doesn't, hence the 4000 boots without it, but the 3000 doesn't.

Exactly.  Best case you'd get a yellow screen.  Worst case you'd get a strange smell and you'd let the smoke out.  :-D

ok, thanks guys. I guess I was thinking of the Prometheus, which plugs into a ZoroIII slot, and NOT the "backplane" slot of the migy.. Which sucks if you have an A3000 and A4000 and you want to swap between the two. Although I hear that the performance of the Mediator is higher (possibly due to this difference?).

OK, I believe I was thinking of this:

Discontinued :(  I wonder if anyone has any of these..
