Title: A3000 PAL chips
Post by: Ogun on April 18, 2003, 03:39:56 PM
I am looking to source the U202/U203 PAL chips for an A3000D. Mine are broken resulting in graphics issues and non-working floppy.

I have the JEDEC source files of the chips from the haynie archives as well, so if some friendly soul with a PAL/GAL programmer could program chips for me as well it would be great.

I live in sweden.

Regards,
  Johan

I have access to a PAL/GAL programmer and live in sweden, but I need to know some things.

1. What brand and model are the chips of?
2. What physical type are the chips? (DIP, PLCC etc)
3. What are the pincount of the chips?

Yes, this seems to be a common problem with U202/U203 chips on A3000 motherboards: http://peach.mie.utoronto.ca/people/tsangc/a3000-2.guide (http://peach.mie.utoronto.ca/people/tsangc/a3000-2.guide) Search for U202 and read the interesting information about U202/203: Chips That Overheat

a pair of Programmable Array Logic chips (format: 16L8-10)...The Commodore part references are 390526-02, 390527-02...GAL16V8's have been tested and checked
by Simon Goodwin.  Simon notes you'll need a fast GAL and a programmer that can convert between both formats.

It does actually not matter. I have no blanks as of yet either. I have seen several pages mention that a GAL16V8 would work equally well. The chips currently seated (non-working) are PAL16L8DCN, the only vendor markings I can find are "MMI".

20 pin DIP

If you could help me I would be eternally grateful, please drop me an email.

Kind regards,
  Johan

Anyone in North America who could make some of these?  My A3000T has started having what I believe to be heat-related problems.  Depending on price, I might want a set for the A3000D spare I keep in the closet too.

I found this on eBay: Amiga 3000 Emergency Survival Kit! RARE CHIPS  (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2723481959&category=4598)  :-)

I'm currently working on a dead A3000 in which I suspect the PAL devices U701/714 have died.
When I get some new ones, I can probably get extras and program then if anyone wants some?
I live in New Zealand.
