Title: Amiga 500 Webserver Online!
Post by: lillPiP on March 02, 2006, 11:17:40 AM
Hi!

My Amiga 500 is up and running as a webserver!
The server is far long from complete so the server may be taken down as I need to.

Kind regards

Thats very nice.. Any chance of some pics of the inside. A500 tower seems more impressive than using an a2000.

Sorry guys! I had to take her down some time. I'm not still finished with everything, so the server may be taken down when I need to.

Very cool!

I want to see Windows XP on a 7mhz cpu, a 1 meg video card, and 8 meg of ram run as a web server. :)

My estimate is it would take about 18-20 hours just to boot.  Got to hope it never crashed!

 Impressive!!
How do you add 8MB fast ram on a Amiga 500?

Very nice!! it works perfectly here...   One question, how works the A500 with wb3.1? 7 mhz is enough? I want to put ks 3.1 on my A600 if i find a pcmcia memory with a decent price, but i don't have an accelerator.

Balrogsoft, KS3.1 will run fine on your A600 - thats what I ran on mine (still got it somewhere) & the only upgrades it had were a 1Mb chip ram upgrade giving it the full 2Mb & a 160MB hard drive  :-)

Very nice A500 too! Works fine here!

@AmigaMance:
I¨m using the GVP 4000 HC+8 which gives me 8 mb in the zorro, and a scsi-controller that I'm using my 2 GB disk with. 8 MB is max in the Zorro2-adresspace. Hopefully I will find a accelerator for the A500/A2000 that is connected in the 68000-socket.

@balrogsoft:
It works great with 7 MHz and OS3.1. Just get a 3.1 ROM.
See also the Amiga 600 Webserver at: http://viten.mine.nu and you'll see what an A600 can do with only 2 MB ram!

Nice and somewhat unexpected! Now, where's the A1000 webserver? =)

Although, I wonder, is there a reason for using Miami instead of AmiTCP?

Well, MiamiDX gives me DHCP!  :-D
It's easiest that way! I like Miami better than Genesis.

If it hadn't been for Miami not performing as good as AmiTCP/Genesis and it being a bit more hungry for resources I would probably have stuck with Miami aswell. I began surfing the net on the Amiga with Miami back in the days, and I have always liked its ease of use. Just not liking it as much today, though, since I don't have the need for DHCP and the fact that Miami falls behind perfomancewise compared to AmiTCP/Genesis.

Impressive. I just viewed it using my A500 - so for the first time my A500 "talked" to another A500. (maybe they secretly plotted to take over the world ;-) )

Somehow, a webserver A500 in its original case would seem more impressive than a tower. An A500 in a tower is like taking a turtle out of its shell and putting it in a shoe box.

yay! another 68000 webserver out there :) I shall add a link to it from my A600 the next time I update the contents on it (which is not that often :) )

just out of curiosity, did you get the version of aws you're using from my A600? (I'm trying to gather all the versions of aws that I can find)

I wouldn't mind having a stock A500 as a webserver, but finding an ethernetcard for that would be as rare as my Micronikboard. OK, I managed to get one, but the chances doesn't comes to often. :-)
And somehow I do like the micronikboard, gives me the possibility to use Zorro-cards.

@mr_a500:
Are you using a serial connection to get your A500 online?

@fx

Please feel free to add a link  :-)
Hopefully I will be able to have this computer online everyday! Actually, fx, I got inspired by your A600! :-D
And I remember that I got this A500 with Micronikboard and thought that it would be fun to get it online.

The AWS is from your site  :-D  :lol:

Yes, I have an external 56K modem and I use MiamiDX. Your page looks good in IBrowse and everything works nicely. (nice looking counter!)

This is a big deal? :-?  Sorry...  I think it's great and everything but I did this many many moons ago and I didn't think it was a big deal then.

Did you write the server?

I really wish I could still compile PurpleCow for 68000...  The original version was that way, the new version requires 020 just because FPC doesn't compile for 000. :evil:  This really bugs me because there are a few other projects I'm working on that were originally intended so they could be run on a stock A500 with OS2.04.

@AMC258
Well, it was up and running already on 2006/3/2 12:17 and has now raised again :)
No, the serverprogram I am running is AWS.

....I'm impressed.

I agree with a previous poster, the A500 has a special place in my imagination.  It was my only computer for about 6 years (before the A3000).
