I finally decided to order scsi kit from amigakit.
today its arrived (veryfast)
so ive installed one 16mb simm just for testing, atach scsi ribbon, plug whole sandwich together and intall it into my 1200.
and now :( now i can see/mount/whatever cdrom or zip drive?
cd and zip is 100% working (im using it with A2000+oktagon, so its properly daisychained and terminated.
on diskette from amigakit its only bunch of unusable tools or what? hdtoolsbox (tooltype askdevice) cant see 1230scsi.device too :(
what i can try now?
(added16meg sim is of course visible and usable (32+16=48meg fast)
 :madashell: :boohoo:
-
os 3.5 BB2
setpatch dint patch 1230scsi.device too
-
6hours of testing :( and still sh*t
-
You do see the extra 16MB memory? Sure you have the cable right way around? Terminated the bus properly?
-
of course, there is only one cable with red marked pin one.
i cant see 1230scsi device tihout thar damn cable.
so its only simm holder, for 100 euro, FU*K
:madashell:
-
I had trouble getting one to work too; got it fixed eventualy after hours of fiddling. Pin 1 is marked on the cable; but not on the card. The red wire is on the simm holder side, if it's not already there.
Try removing the SCSI board and clean the contacts on both the Blizzard and the SCSI card. This eventually worked for me, probably just a dirty contact (though the effect was very different; my Amiga wouldn't boot, just a black screen)
-
my amiga is working fine, i can see additional 16meg simm on scsi kit
i know, pin 1 is near simm socket, its installer step by step like in manual :(
strange thing
i see only carddisk.device and scsi.device in hdtoolbox
tested with three blizzards (phase5, dce, old, new)
-
Some SCSI drives will not work with the Amiga properly you should try a different drive. You MUST have a SCSI active terminator on the SCSI cable as well.
-
its not funny u know :(
i just cant see 1230scsi.device in hdtoolbox
-
You have to set the scsi device in the Tooltypes of HDToolbox if I recall correctly. Then it will use that device driver.

I am not laughing, I understand that setting up a SCSI drive can be a pain.
Do you have the Drive set to the right device # make sure it is not the same as any other SCSI device and not #7 as that is reserved for the controler.
Do you hear the drive spin up when you power it up?
-
LOL, there is no problems with drives!!!
now tried under 3.1, its the same, THERE IS NO 1230scsi.device
drives are working fine with other miggys :)
NO DRIVES CONNECTED, still cant see scsi device in any scsi inquiry tool
>version scsi.device
scsi.device 37.64
>version 1230scsi.device
object not found

Maybe your scsi kit is busted! Or try a rom update?
-
@Chain:
What does a "version 1230scsi.device" in a shell say?
/Patrik
-
as i wrote
>version scsi.device
scsi.device 37.64
>version 1230scsi.device
object not found
-
The device should be in rom am I right?
Then there's the problem I guess...
-
Chain, have you tried asking AmigaKit before badmouthing them ? Take a deep breath and calm down before replying !
-
im just a n00b when connectin some strangescsi to another active terminated lvd scsi etc..
Im not badmoughting amigakit, ok?
i was searching my mistake BEFORE mail to amigakit.
i hope its clear now

Is a SCSI device attached to SCSI-IV kit? Perhaps you need to attach a device to it, in order for the 1230scsi.device to show up in the list, in HDToolBox?
Remember that the SCSI-IV kit is actively terminated on one end already, so you just need to use active termination on the other end, after your last SCSI device in the chain.

this ''damn'' scsi.device 37.64 version is rom's 3.0
1230scsi.device is 7.19 in my scsikit, after the update i use goes to v8.1. even when i boot with no startup-sequence the 1230scsi.device appears ok and without the need to connect anything on the controler, i don't have any kind of termination too. you can see some of the running devices and versions if you run the sysinfo.what workbench version you run?
-edit-
i see it, 3.5 bb2
-
Another thing to try is to use different memory on the blizzard and the scsi kit.
Last but not least, do not forget to set the memory speed jumper to 70ns (located on B1230-IV card) when SCSI-KIT + SIMM is attached/used with B1230-IV. This is an absolute must, as per Phase 5 manual.
-
Wooohoo :)
i got mail from amigakit
there is softscsi tool, i can see it if its scsi rom patched (8.1)
passive terminator, just as ithought it worked fine, first cd burned, readed, wirhout any problem :)
but why it needs to be patched to v8.1?
Is there any way to burn it into 27c256 eprom and replace it on scsi board?
thats the q..

1230scsi fix (http://it.aminet.net/pub/aminet/util/misc/1230ScsiFix16b.lha)
there is a 1230scsi.device module for the blizkick if you use it.
blizkick (http://piru.dyndns.org/~p/sw/BlizKick.lha)
-
Dunno if this is any help, but there's a page about the blizzard scsi-kit on the unofficial blizzard 1260 site (http://www.geocities.com/Area51/1739/scsikit.html)
-
still its strange, why i cant see it without any patches?
backto1995orwhatewer> you bought bliz with scsi kit and its not working, just plug it in and you cant see 1230scsi.device?
its normal situation?

tested in my four miggys with three blizards and different systems, just for sure :) before mailing to amigakit wit "its faulty" u know

bliz1230scsi ROM v 8.5 WANTED! :)
is there anybody who have it? i will burn it to eprom..

check email

i wonder why you are anger and attacking all of us here who trying to help you using our personal experience, good or bad, enough or less enough, we are not here just for fun or to joke with others problems, we are here because we love to be here,
and want to help each other.
even more you can't blame any company in public if they didn't try to solve your problem first or they try to ignore you.
-
If it looks like attack so Im SORRY, i dont mean it that way!
I still dont now why it didnt work without scsi software patch. just with plain 3.1 it says object not found, like no rom on card :(

I was wondering the same thing myself actually...

It seems to me like everyones attacking him. He didn`t criticise Amigakit, he made it clear that he`d followed all instructions regarding termination etc, yet he was asked over and over to check termination and cables. I laughed out loud at the first page of this thread.
Now he`s "bad mouthing" for using a bit of bold type!

except of the laughter, i would like to see your trys to help him too!

You are right of course, I shouldn`t just pointlessly interject like that. It just didn`t read like he`d really said anything wrong to me that`s all.
-
I felt like attacking people when I installed my Blizzard SCSI-IV kit too...
:-D
For a start it's a real 'bitch to fit in, particularly with a SIMM and finding the right way around for the SCSI-IV to ribbon connector.
My DCE SCSI-IV has the v8.5 ROM which I was told would be good for CD burning. The trouble I have is there's a large capacitor right where the 2nd SIMM slot is, effectively blocking me from installing another SIMM!
I suppose BlizKick will put a v8.5 SCSI-IV ROM into memory for you, there's got to be a reason for the 8.1 -> 8.5 update.
Where is your SCSI-IV utils? Mine came with SCSIconfig and UnitControl. These not only prep your SCSI hard disk (enabling Synch & Reselect) but also allow you to adjust transfer rates, scan the SCSI bus and stop drive motors.
One other problem I have had with my SCSI-IV is that the I get erroneous data transmissions even in Asynch mode. I think it was Castellan that told me the 'zebra connector' was known to make a bad contact now and then.
Pulling the connectors on and off can sometimes make a better connection (tarnished by heat/oxidising).
Also, remember with SCSI-2 that you must not have a chain longer than 3m and that no two IDC headers must be within 10cm of eachother on a ribbon. The less connectors the better (RF reflection) and active termination (such as a Honda ribbon or external LED block) are essential to absorb reflection.
Termination can be applied with jumpers on most internal drives. Term power also needs to be guaranteed.
