Hi,
I'd like to have only one machine on my desk and stash all other machines away out of sight. One of them is a Win machine. How well does RDesktop perform on the Amiga?, can anyone share some knowledge please ?
Regards,
HC

as afraikm there is a version of real VNC for the aming that should work with vnc on the pee cee, but ii would imagine that is till be slooooooowwww unless you have a fast miggy
-
I seem to remember there being a version of VNC for the amiga. it worked alright with a graphics card based miggy, but you needed a fairly meaty machine to deal with pushing AGA display modes to another computer. there was a PPC build but it wasn't that stable with my A4000PPC...
Amiga VNC server and client (http://dspach.free.fr/amiga/avnc/)

I've found the Amiga RDesktop client to be very usable for basic tasks and much faster than VNC on my 060.
It's still kinda slow, however, but I think a lot of that can be attributed to my ancient PC.

Just in case no-one has googled it yet

Thanks for the Info, I assume my A1200/060 with BVision (in desktop) should do the job fine. Now to buy myself a network card. :)

Have (finally) installed this and found it much faster than the other VNC solutions out there.
As mentioned above though, it is still a bit slow.
I've tried the arguements "rdesktop NOMOUSE 192.168.1.3" to reduce unnecessary bandwidth usage, but the switch has no effect - the mouse updates are still sent.
Anyone optimised this to be really snappy?
I'm using BPPC/040 Bvision (1024*768*16) setup with warpDT installed (not sure if that makes any difference) and a Netgear MA401 wireless PCMCIA card using AmiTCP/genesis stack.
[EDIT] - just visited the website - latest version now has NOMOUSE support, and is further optimised. Requires donation for access. I eagerly await the latest version through email.
-
The latest version is a lot faster and nicer than the previous (free) version.
I`d highly recommend getting it - just send a donation using PAYPAL - the URL is in one of the posts above.
The e-mail arrived overnight with the archive as attachment - Thanks Darren!
Darren is also going to ask the developers to look at compiling a WOS version (currently there is only 68K, MOS & OS4).
This beats the ass off of Amiga VNC. :-)

I have used TwinVNC (http://twinvnc.free.fr/index_eng.html) and it is *excellent*. There are versions for 020, 030, 040 and 060 included in the archive. It feels really quick on my Blizzard 1260/Voodoo.

anybody ever get vnc to work on the amiga?
-
I wonder what could be considered an acceptable donation...
I was just about to make a donation, but it will be rather small, and it almost felt silly... like €5 or something...

anybody ever get vnc to work on the amiga?
Yes, I've got it working on two Amiga's. On a A1200/060/AGA and on a A1200/PPC/BVision, but I'm using it to control my PC.
Works like a charm!
-
hmm, is it built into 3.9 I remember seeing some vnc files?

Works ok on my setup....

Hi,
yes.. rdesktop works great, most if you have the "donation version".. :-)
I''ve been trying to use the rdesktopmui gui with that version but it doesn't seem to work.. I have the rdesktop executable in the same dir.. after setting the parameters I click on "connect" button.. but nothing happens.. however command line works OK.. any ideas?
cheers!
