Hey Bros, anyone know a source where I can procure a copy of an A1000 Kickstart? I just pulled my A1000 from the moth balls and am charmed at seeing the classic disk logo again, but I want to move and get this miggy humming again. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Phoenix add-on board

Do you have another functional Amiga with a working floppy drive to create one from a DMS image? This can't be done from a PC without special hardware. If not then someone will have to mail one to you.

Yes, I have a few other miggys.
-
Aminet has some files but not the original kickstart or WB!
-
It won't be on Aminet as the ROM is still copyrighted. You will have to look around to find an image of the disk to download, or buy one.

It's an hard piece to find today.
But I think that the license you get when you buy your machine allow you to download it on net, look on the planet's emulators sites ;-)
-
Yes, I am aware that as a paid owner of an Amiga PC I am granted the license to use such software so long as I am still the owner of the Amiga PC. Can the kickstart be garnered from an Amiga Forever 5 CD?

and if you buy windows for your pc tell ms that you have the right to download an iso of windows because you just have the rights. in any case the lisences is for one machine per copy.
ask any of the amiga programmers that uploading shareware on aminet, what they think about it.
-edit-
rom 1,0 is on amiga forever but i can't imagine how can be transfered to a floppy in the way that kick floppys haven't got a .rom in it, as far as i know from 2.04 kick floppy

Yes, you do have the right.
-
i would like to see you doing it, then.

Have a look on aminet for writekickdisk.lha as it can create a kickstart rom disk from a rom file but it won't work with Amigaforever kickstart roms as they are encrypted.
-
very interesting and i wonder if it can be done a 3.1 rom kick floppy, i will try it but as the author say:
''You can use Kickstart image files from GrabKick or transrom,
but not encrypted files (from the Amiga Forever CD)''
-edit-
3.1 rom kickdisk was write ok, but a1200 crashes at boot time as 3.1 is already on chip, amiga with earlyer kickstart maybe can use it, ho knows...
-
Hi,
3.1 ROMs are too big - 512Kb vs the 256Kb of 1.3, so won't work on the A1000 using writekick...
The A1000 loads the Kickstart image from floppy into its WOM (write once memory), which is then protected against further writing. The size of the WOM is 256Kb.
However, if your A1000 has tonnes of spare RAM, there's nothing subsequently stopping you from using a softkicker to get it running a 3.1 Kickstart image from normal RAM, once you've gone through a 1.3 boot-up.

A 512k kickstart disk would only really work on a A3000.
-
but not if it has 3.1 rom installed. while 1200 crashes, 3000 boots straight from hard disk without a hits
-edit-
a1200 don't boot even with a 3.9 rom kickdisk but this time don't crash, just ask to insert a floppy :)
a3000 boot from hd normal as with 3.1 disk
-edit 2-
@K7HTH: dms read and write ok kickstart disks so i hope that you can finaly find a .dms file to write this disk :-)

Thanks for all the input! A good brother here has taken care of me and now I am kicking this miggy with a 1.3 Kickstart and WB. I am now working on getting the Extras disk made and then it's all down hill from there. Enter the ol' time gaming! :-D
-
I;m curious to see how long these WB and kick discs will last. I have some from '87 and they still fire up just fine. Ive thrown more 1.44mb floppies in the trash than i can remember with my pc, but ive never had a problem with the 720k or whatevers on the amiga.

If you have 2MB+ memory on the A1000 you can use TwinKick from aminet to make a Kickstart 1.3/3.1 disk! Has a menu to select the OS!
