I'd like to connect to the amiga.org chat.
But mirc or Amirc tells me the following:
Must identify to your nickname to join an unmanaged channel...
How to do that ?
-
Hi,
Start Mirc and then type:
/server irc.webchat.org
That will connect you. Then:
/nick Weekendsoon
Did you try something like that?

Ok, first off, "Must identify to your nickname to join an unmanaged channel" means that there is no op present at the time, so you can only join the channel if you have a registered nickname.
To register your nickname with NickServ:
Join the channel (if you can :-D )
Type /msg nickserv register password emailaddress
where "password" is a password of your choice and emailaddress is the email address you want to register it to (not a fake email, it sends instructions to your email address).
Then just follow the instructions, and you will be registered soon.
Then when you are done registering, every time you log on to the server, you must identify to your nickname by typing:
/msg nickserv identify password
where "password" is the one you chose earlier.
(Some clients have alias functions, so you can just type /nickserv ... or /ns ... instead of /msg nickserv ...)
This is a bit much to remember to type every time you log in, but most IRC clients have either an option to type in a list of commands to perfom automatically when you log in, (eg. mine is /nickserv identify password; /join #amiga.org) or an option to map the identifying to an F-key or something similar.
---- edit ----
Oh yes, and if you are already registered and still get this problem, it usually just means that you have to identify first and get a "Password accepted" before you try to join the channel :-)

Well put Blom, but you've missed one thing.
Type /nick nickname
where nickname is the name you want to register.
Then do what Blomberg has written.

Amiga.org's (the channel) webinterface (http://amiga.hostingmountain.com/) is cgi based, but regardless of which method you use to connect to the channel, you'll still need to identify to your (registered) nickname, when the channel is op-less.
But it isn't op-less very often, or very long at a time :-)
---- Edit ----
Hmm, seems I misunderstood something there :-?
Anyways ... we *do* have a webinterface - look at the main page under 'Extra Stuff' - there you'll also find the server and channel info :-)
#amiga.org resides on irc.webchat.org port 6667

when i get that message about identifying my username or whatever i just change my server and it seems to work fine.
i can never seem to use the same server twice in one session (i get kicked off every our by my isp u c) so switch servers and it seems to solve that problem.
i use 3 different servers that i use on rotation.
