I dont know if gaps the right word there, I bought a mk1 c64,mk 2 c64, c128 and a c16 all with Data cassettes and 100% working ,psu's,cables, joysticks and software for £40 of ebay last year.

Guess its not to bad of a profit if I sold my C128 for $699 lol

He could at least have cleaned it up a bit.  I guess the caked dirt on the keys helps define the system as "vintage."

Oh yeah, the [ url] tag is your friend.  ;-)

Good greif, if old commodores actually sold at those prices, I would say that would make my 128D worth about 599 and my SX-64 say... 899? What an investment.

Groan...here we go again!

There's a big difference between price and value. He's aiming at a completely different market from the rest of us. If he thinks someone will pay, then the best of luck to him.

Cheers,

If there is something that I know about,it's the sensibilities of eBay selling. I've done more then enough in my days. There was only one Commodore that I've seen that would have been worth anything close to that, and that was a Commodore Max Machine with a box and two games they had on there.

Anything else like that just makes people jaded, and makes it harder for the rest of us ethical and legitimate sellers to make any money at all. I've had too many people challenge some of my sales on eBay in the past because my stuff was reasonably priced, while the bidders have seen stuff similar to mine for outrageous prices. They assumed my stuff was either a scam, defective.

There is a within reason price. If you have common fare items, sell them at common fair prices.  What if someone was stupid enough to actually buy this, or would have (god forbid) bid on this by mistake. Then these people will get all pissy and will tell their friends not to get any item X from eBay because such and such are crooks. Some of the stupidiest people have a lot of friends. The story gets passed around, it changes.  Generally that's how eBay selling gets it's bad name and ALL eBay sellers become victims. Just as you don't loot a sinking galleon ship for gold statues to put on the liferaft, you don't try to rake every penny and more from people on line.

ive had several freinds who wanted to sell stuff on ebay, old computers and such and had no clue how much any of it was worth. i had to tell them to do some research, look for similar stuff and price accordingly.

there have been 2 or 3 time that i could have gotten a c128 for about 20 bucks or so (what i would consider a good price) and i didnt for one reason or another. now im kicking myself for it, i had a c64, then 64c before my first amiga and i kinda always wanted one.

ummm anybody got one they want to sell :-)

Ever notice how the vultures' old computer stuff is always "RARE" and usually "vintage" too?
Old PT Barnum was right though, if somewhat low on his estimate.

Whenever I want something vintage I check www.4jays.net first.  I've picked up a 64C and Atari 2600 from them. They usually have A500s and Amiga monitors too.

Since they're local I also get to save on shipping.  I'd recommend them!

You're doing better than me at 4Jays!  I'm originally from out there so when I went there back in July for a wedding, I took the cruise down to Antioch to visit em.  For the life of me, I couldn't get the kid to look up from his computer when you first walk in for anything.  I kept having to ask "how much is this.. how much is this..".  He was so damn lazy he said I could just walk behind the counter to look at things :P  I left with nothing since I got tired of asking prices :/

Insane prices arent limited to ebay. Look at some consignment shops, ive seen ibm xt machines with 300 dollar price tags, c64s with similar prices.

I think people often put stuff up for sale, not knowing what stuff is worth, so they just set the price high. You often see 15 year old tv's complete with color problems and bleed in for 200 bucks. VCRs for 100 bucks, and beat up couches for same price.

Go check out a pawn shop, and see what they want for computers. Insanity. I saw a pawn shop the other day that had a compaq tower, with like 8 bays ( proliant machine i think). It was a 100Mhz machine with nt4 installed, they wanted 900 dollars, i tried to negotiate them down to 20 dollars, they laughed and told me it was a "server".
