There's a package on Aminet claiming to offer a way of displaying PAL screens on 31KHz VGA screens. The archive contains a document detailing how you create the screen in your programme. I don't know enough about Amiga hardware or programming to know whether this would work. Here is a link (http://www.aminet.net/package.php?package=hard/hack/PAL_on_SVGA.lha) to the archive on Aminet.
So has anyone tried this? If it does actually work, I have to wonder whether WHDLoad could use this trick to display on a VGA monitor?

for an amiga 1200 or 4000 you can use the Euro72 monitor driver and boot the workbench at svga, i try it and works fine, but i don't know how can you change the usualy low resolutions of most of the games.

Well, with games that are non system compliant the monitor settings of Workbench don't have any effect on what screen the games open on. WHDLoad is one example - it turns off the OS and opens 15KHz PAL screenmodes, regardless of what Workbench is using.
My idea was that if this PAL on SVGA technique actually works, then WHDLoad could open a screen like that, which would then be displayable on a VGA monitor.
No idea if that would work though

a more secure method is the use of a scan doubler/flicker fixer. then you don't have to change anything on the amiga. just plag and go

off - double post

Most SVGA will just display "out of range" for PAL, and thus this idea (or hack) will not work.
Even if it worked for the particular monitor, this thing can't be used for promoting existing apps/games as it requires skipping part of the screen when rendering.
So no, it won't work.

Yes but scandoublers are very expensive, and don't always look very good. If WHDLoad could be made to display on VGA screens then those whose only need for PAL screenmodes is games would not need to buy a scandoubler :-)

Didn't see your post before replying, Piru. Well it was a nice thought anyway :-)
