Title: cd rom drive for 2000 using asimcdfs
Post by: 23703jim on February 11, 2006, 02:59:06 AM
i really appreciate all the good info on the ins and outs of putting a cd drive in a 2000. i looked at my software the only thing it says about cd drives is "go to asimware site for a list of compatiable cd rom drives", all well and good except asimware was taken over by iomega somes years back and there is absolutly no information on the asimware alias iomega site.
so....what cd drive do i use with the 2091a scsi controller card vs 6.6 and kick start 2.04.??????????
it would seem that if i get almost any scsi cd rom drive the software may not recognize it. i have on my mind an old apple cd drive ie: 300e or 600or even the 300 that was manufactured in 1995. i found a 300 on bay buyt it uses a cartridge to hold the cd and i would just as soon stay away from that headache.
any suggestions?????

much thanks for all your info :-?

These days this is a hit or miss area, for sure. It is not as bad as you might think however. I have a 1 year old Sony 52x drive that works well in an A2000 though a 2091 card with Asimware. I have also used new plextors, Liteon, and NEC and older Sony external units, on the A2000, and A500 and A1200 machines.
To be honest, the only drive I can remember not working with Asimware, was an older Phillips.

I agree, I have the last virsion that AsimCDFS came out with v3.9 and I have not had any tyrouble with it recognizing any of them. I now even have a Sony DRU510 DVDr drive hooked up to the internal IDE device in my A4000 and it reads just fine I am now trying to get the most recent BurnIt software v3.0 that aparenty burns to DVDr disks.
