Title: SCSI question
Post by: 560SL on February 10, 2006, 08:59:50 PM
Hmmm.... I just tried to attach a SCSI Ultra320, 36,4 GB HD to the CyberstormPPC (SCSI3). I got the following message when I started HDToolBox:

"
Unit 2
The program >>HDToolBox<< or the unit is buggy.
The sc_Length dma transfer length is smaller than the requested transfer length.

This may be caused by a wrong length in the CMD[] or by a unit firmware problem.
CMD[]=Cmd=0x250000000000000000000000
Length=8 Skipped length=238
"

I thought newer SCSI devices would be backward compatible, i.e. adapt to older controllers and vice versa.

I havent tried this HD on my PC SCSI controller yet, it may be broken, but I doubt that. It's not that old.

Ultra320 SCSI wont work with SCSI3 controller on CyberstormPPC. Confirmed?

I have a 80pin SCSI drive connected to my Cyberstorm PPC and It wouks just fine. Try selecting the SCSI ID0 or 1 and see if that works. Do you have the SCSI cable terminated with an Active terminator?

Also In the Cyberstorm boot menu do you have the SCSI ID13 or what ever ID you are using enabled? To get into boot menu you need to press "Esc" during the Amigas bootup.

Which HD is that? Cyberstorm SCSI has problems with some makes. I remember that 50 pin IBM drives worked fine but when I tried some wide (68 pin) ones they failed (especially LVD even though they were supposed to have a fallback mode). What helps sometimes is to force the LVD drive into SE mode with a jumper (if it has it). Which HDToolBox do you use? Sometimes I had better luck with the one from 3.1. Also how is your termination?

I use an 80-pin 18GB Seagate Barracuda drive with a 80-68pin adaptor on my CyberstormPPC controller no problemo.

Its a HP Invent HD, a couple of years old. Ultra320, 36.4 GB.

Last plug on SCSI cable is a terminator. I currently use a Seagate 18.5 GB SCSI3 HD and this works excellent. Just switching the Seagate with the HP does not work.

HDToolBox is the one from AmigaOS 3.9.

Holding down Esc at startup does bring me to the Cyberstorm menu, but its running in some screenmode too funky for my old 1084 i'm using while i'm fixing with the tower. I cant see a thing...???

Hi Folks,

I have a similar problem with a BPPC and a 36,4 GB 68 pins IBM hdd. It's not detected, and when i set it to an ID already used there is well a conflict...
I tried also some IBM 9 Gb SCA-80 pins + converter to 50/68 pins it works, and also some Compaq hdd (ibm) U2W 68 pins + 50 pins converter that works too.
Is there any limits for BPPC ?

I have also try this 36,4 GB on a PC with an Adaptec 2940 UW (50/68) in 68 pins mode and an Adaptec 2940 Ultra (50 pins). It's only detected when it's use with one of my 9 Gb HDD..

Thanks for yours advices,

Try the 3.1 HDToolBox or get this from Aminet: HDInstTool. Be careful! Do not mix them on any single drive. If you use one of them to partition a drive and want to change/add/delete partitions later on use the same one you used originally or it can overwrite your partition table.
