Title: WinUAE wrong df0 help
Post by: omen_ on February 09, 2006, 12:16:14 AM
My question is very simply and silly for almost everyone of you, but you must forgive me - I don't know anything about emulators, I only want to play again in my favrite game when I  was a child - 688 Attack Sub. Anyway... I download this game and WinUAE (with KickStart 1.3). And now - what should I do, to play this game? What should I chose "DiskDrive DF0"? The program give me an information "Selected disk image is not bootable (bootblock CRC error)" when I chose one of the possible icons ("GAME", "CALL", "TITLE")? What;s wrong? Sorry for my english, I know that it's not perfect :-( Is there anyone who understand me and can help me?

I really find such responses silly and childish... He could already be owning a LEGAL kisktart rom from what you would know and he could also have bought the downloadable copy of amigaforever. By any ways, it is really none of your business anyways, as he never asked for where to get this rom or anything. I hate it when people scream PIRACY for nothing!
I know of people who have their old amiga in their closet or packed down on the attic, and they still play amiga games through emulators.

But to the orginal poster: I have really no idea on what is causing this problem you are experiencing. It could simply be a corrupt floppy"adf" image that is causing this error or it could be something else. If you did download this adf, then it might have been corrupted during the transfer, so it might help to redownload it.

Just recently, someone else has been having trouble with UAE, so you may benefit from looking at this thread (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=20650).

From your description, it sounds like your adf image is either corrupt, or was not intended to be a bootable disk (probably the former).  You may benefit from downloading it again, or getting it from a different source.  You should also verify the size of the file.  Each adf should most likely be 880KB in size.

It is so cruel this Amiga community we live in. It seems like everyone is so hurt by all the stuff going on that anything it seems in our eyes that will hurt what is left of the industry will be cried foul. I've kinda seen the story on both sides. I've even watched specials on game industry ICONS that even admitted that they too were once pirates when they were young. Now they program games themselves. It's all a shaky ground.

Anyways, I myself only have one of my Amigas in the closet because I still have to change her Buster 9 to a Buster 11. I myself am going to copy their roms to use on my emulator to play around with on WinUAE.  Yeah I even have some Amiga games around here too. Drakken in the closet one I can see from right now, I think I have another one that has this silk bag in it, and a map. Cant remember what that one is.

Well, I have two's ks 1.3... One of them came from AmigaForever (O yeah! I bought this time some time ago), and the other came from my A500, that was obtained using the winUae Tools (transrom).

I think... if this last is illegal... why WinUae team distribute this fine tool?

omen_ if you don't tell us (at last, me) nothing about your problem with your disk/image game, we (or I) can't assist you...  :-D

@Tomas: go and tell all these to the companies that have abandon amiga, starting from... let's see... electronic arts?
