Hi everyone,
Has anyone seen or know if CD writers or DVD writers are suported with the Amiga yet and if so what software do I need?
I run OS3.5 on my A4000D

i dont know about the writing capabilities but my dvd write reads cds and DVDs no problem,
dvds have a very high write speed for example an 8x disk writes at 11 mega bytes per second.. my amiga is no where near that fast

Ya, I was wondering that. I do have a cyberstorm PPC with the memory maxed out but do not know if that would help. Im not so concerned about burning DVDs but would like the storage capabilitys of the DVDr disks (would make a great backup for my Toaster Flyer system).

With the SCSI controller on the CSPPC, there shouldn't be a problem. Just get the correct drive and/or adaptor, and off you go.
I'm using 2 x IDE CD-RW drives, connected to the SCSI chain through an adaptor, and it works great. Last time I burned a CD from ISO, it took around 3 minutes to burn 600 MB. I'm soon going to replace both CD-RW drives with DVD-RW drives, and try it out to see if I can burn DVD discs.

All modern drives are MMC compatible and thus work out of the box. For DVD burning the bigger problem is the software.
what software do I need?

For CD burning with GUI, MakeCD (http://makecd.core.de/) is the de-facto stardard.

Thanks for the info,
I was hoping to use my spare IDE DVDr drive for burning. Is speed the only issue? as all I want to do is backup my flyer drives? is it still possible to use the IDE DVDr on the IDE controller? I wont be using it to make DVDs

of course you can, i have an LG 52x cdrw on my 1200 connected to the amiga's plain ide port as slave and i can write the cds at x5-8 without any problem. a1200 ram 64mb

I'd recommend a Lite-On burner, since they are shorter and will fit the case better. I have a DVD/CD-RW combo drive and it fits and works great.
-
do you need any special software for burning or do you just copy the file/s over (Drag and drop)? I have AsimCDFS v3.9 installed running OS 3.5. The drive I want to use is a farly new Sony DRU510 DVDr drive.

You need a burning program like MakeCD. You can download it from www.makecd.core.de.
