Title: IDE on A2091 board
Post by: artman on February 07, 2006, 02:10:57 AM
Seems that I remember hearing about there being on the A2091 board room for an ide connector that was never put on the board.  Anyone ever heard of the same thing and if so, anyone ever succeed in soldering one in and making it work?  Best regards to all...Art

That would be the same as the ancient XT IDE interface on the A590 hard drive, not the regular IDE you are probably thinking about. You will probably not find a working drive these days that supports it, nor would you want to:-D

The holes are there, but I've never heard of anyone using it. I've been thinking about using it like the clockport on the 1200 and attaching other stuff to it. I haven't found out the address of the port though. Still, a lot of stuff sold to the embedded & basic stamp hobbyists might work there. I had in mind the 'packet whacker' a $25 ethernet card.

As Jeff pointed out, the IDE port is an XT-IDE, not te be confused with AT-IDE we all know and love (or hate).

This port WAS used in the A590, often the standard 20MB drive that came with was of the XT-IDE flavour.

You can NOT use ANY AT-IDE stuff on it, so forget about hard drives, CF-Card readers, CD-Rom drives etc.
The only thing which will work on the port is an (ancient) XT-IDE drive, iirc no drives larger then 40MB were ever made.

Yup, you all are absolutely right.  I had not even thought about the old xt style ide stuff.  Oh well, sounded too good to be true anyhow.  Thanks for clearing this up for me, now I'll start looking for a scsi cd-rom burner for my A2000.  Thanks again...Art
