Can anyone else get to Back2TheRoots (http://www.back2roots.org)? I can't seem to reach it at the moment.

I truly hope it is just maintenance.
:-(
"I hope noone ever was killed for crying, cause I feel a sulk coming on."

I noticed that earlier today. I couldget to their support pages, but not the main section.
-
Was there anything on the support page about any downtime?
Anyone know if the Alien Breed series are on there?

No, didn't see any mention of downtime. Don't know if they have the game either. It's been down before though, and should be up again.

You can find Alien Breed and other Team 17 games on their fan site. Visit: http://www.dream17.co.uk/index.php
Simply select Softography. From there you can download almost every single Team 17 Amiga title for use either on an Amiga system or an emulator.

Are those downloads legal? Also, do you know if the disk images are WHDLoad-able?

"Dream17 has been given permission from Team17 to host ADFs and IPF (CAPS) Disk images of their Team17 titles. Under no circumstances is anyone to re-distribute or leech these titles without the prior consent of Team17 Software Ltd. Dream17 would like to thank the CAPS Project for giving us access to the IPF disk images."

Hey, what an excellent site. I love Team17 games. The last time I checked (quite a while ago), a good number of those titles were not available as abandonware. Thanks for the heads-up. Here's to you :pint:

I have had trouble with viewing this web site too lately.
Everything there is on this (Back2TheRoots) web site is legal, right? And you do not need to own your own copy?
-
Everything on Back2TheRoots is legal. The authors have granted permission for the software to be distributed through the site.

They are indeed legal and even supported by team17 themself. Apparantly they released all their amiga titles for free. :-D
I found this link through the official team17 forums..
I wish more companies would do the same...

Yep, all legal for personal usage.

I love Back2Roots... but I would prefer them trying to access the rights to use them CAPS releases instead (if they have gotten clearance to use the .adf's the step to being allowed to use the .ipf's of the same games can't be such a mess... or maybe I am wrong here), since they (apparently) work so much better with most WHDLoad installers.
In all honesty I detest them cracked versions of those old games, and many games I've donwloaded from Back2Roots have not been working the way they should. Especially not when using WHDLoad to install them (besides some few installers which actually supports the Back2Roots versions of the games). Some of the games have also seemed to be downright broken and unplayable from start to finish, which maybe isn't so strange... because I doubt that all the games hosted have been played from start to finish to ensure that they are working perfectly. But, what do I know.
Oh. Well. Anyways. It's a great service ANYWAYS, my above point-outs aside, and I do hope they will be going on for a long time! Their efforts are surely appreciated.

They also have a quite a few preinstalled WHDLoad games as well and even some cd32 isos.

Why they should change to ipfs, when this type is restricted to those who own the real disks?. I personally don't see the point in the politic of CAPS. It's impossible that one person to have all the titles on amiga originals for asking them to the backup.
Just my two cents
