A few years ago I used to use Hook99 to change the Start button in XP to any image and/or text I wanted. Since getting SP2 it hasn't worked. The Start button still shows no matter what.
I've tried changing from the XP button to the "classic" one and both have the same problem.
Is there any other program like Hook99 that'll work under XPSP2?
I really want to change my Start button to the Umbrella Logo :-D

i wonder why don't you ask the gurus of ms?

Like I'd get a straight answer from them about third party software ;-)

Try this (http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article02-029). I have no idea if it works as I don't use Windows, but it looks like it may work :-)

Hum,
http://www.theeldergeek.com/change_text_on_xp_start_button.htm
With a link to Resource Hacker.
I personally use WindowBlinds (http://www.stardock.com/products/windowblinds/) to skin the entire interface to match WinUAE AmigaOS (http://pcdesktops.emuunlim.com/wb16-20.shtml)...

One thing I forgot to say was that there's 2 users on this PC so I'd prefer to have a prog like Hook99 so that we can have different Start buttons.
I'm assuming that following the explorer.exe hacks would change the button for all users?

Oooohh, I didn't realise Windowblinds was that cheap (http://www.stardock.com/products/windowblinds/benefits/index.html)

Use windowblinds....
The demo is free...
(a skinFlint can just replace the built in Themes...)
-
Getting the free version just now to check it out.

Hum,
I tested , the latest version the last year...
But it kept on wanting to connect to Stardock and was a bit more hungry than the old 3.1e Version (http://www.geocities.com/blobrana/downloads/windowblinds31e.zip) (Demo, 1579kb)....
Version 3.1e has never crashed or clashed with any program...its one of the best bits of eyecandy software i have...It just sits there quietly working in the background...
It even works with IE7 (http://static.flickr.com/11/89030740_5ffdde5698_o.gif)

I'm loving the things you can do with WindowBlinds, but I think I'd need to read the manual to get anywhere good with it.
I'll almost certainly be buying it when I get some money :-)
