Title: Blizzard 1230IV 68882 FPU
Post by: Karamoon1 on February 03, 2006, 11:52:58 AM
Hi all

Does anyone know whether you can use the two items together in an A1200?

Blizzard 1230IV @ 50mhz
68882 FPU PGA @ 40mhz

The site selling the FPU say that the FPU has been 50mhz tested, does this mean that I will be able to use it in my blizzard accelerator? I know that it isn't recommended.

Thanks

Gavin.

"The Big Book of Amiga Hardware" dosn't say anything about weather you can operate the FPU on the card at a different clock speed than the 030. However you should have no problems in overclocking the FPU to 50MHz but i would rather be on the safe side and get a real 50MHz FPU.

I had heard that chips could be overclocked, I think it would be better to be safe than sorry though.

Ill pick up an FPU of the 50mhz variety.

Thanks for your help

Gavin.

At one time i tried to overclock an 68882 20MHz to 50MHz that's an 150% overclock. I tried it in lightware where it performed well (speed wise) however it did generate some odd looking errors in the rendered image, telling that is was making alot of miscalculations because of the overclock. However it did not get hot or anything but there were a good risk to damage the FPU or/and the board but as being young at the time I did not regonize the danger :-)
