Is there some law somewhere that says that if you become a landlord, you can behave like a lunatic?

My friend had a landlord that killed two USDA inspectors. Gunned them right down in the street.:quickdraw:

He told of a time when he was a little younger, two of his roommates grabbed the landlord when he came asking for the rent and locked him in a closet for a few hours. He didn't ask for the rent again, needless to say. :rtfm:

@Amiduffer

Seriously there are some landlords that are complete _______ (fill in the blank with the colorful expletive of your choice).

My girlfriend and her money had a landlord that wouldn't come over and fix a lot of things in their house.  They even had a leaking pipe from the bathroom on the second floor that would drip down to the living room on the first.  They told him he wasn't going to get any rent until they got that fixed (besides they had a lot of other problems going at that time that needed more attention).

Well this guy didn't really care, the only time he came by was to see if he was going to get his money.  He eventually got upset from getting asked to do his job, so he kicked them out :-x (there rent wasn't even really late.)  Thinking he would be happy to have them out so he could rent the house out to someone else so he could screw them over, he held a personal vendetta against my girlfriends mom and gave her crappy rental references.

I tell you some people.

Many law firms will give you the first consutation free. It shouldn't be too hard to grab the yellow pages, look up a firm that might handle your type of problem and give them a call. Call serveral actually. I had to do this many years ago for legal advise. It worked out for me ok. Good luck.

In the UK there's a charity or government funded service called 'Citzens Advice Bureau' where you can get free advice on issues such as tenancy. A lot of solicitors will offer a free legal advice session for the public on certain quiet days.

Also, there are strict laws that apply to landlords in the UK: you must give 3 months notice to a paying tenant before kicking them out and the property must be fit for habitation (fire exits, smoke alarms and good sanitation).

I've never heard of rental references before but that sounds like a real opportunity for abuse and bullying.

I think it pays from the offset with people in positions of power to let them know you're aware of the law and your rights. It makes them think twice about what they can get away with.

Does he have pets? Nothing gets somebodys attention like messing with their extended family members. The nice thing about pets are, when you damage them, they cant talk.

If he's got a cat or a dog, lop off an ear, bob the tail or poke out an eye, doesnt matter really, just make sure the animal is obviously damaged and still alive. Drop buy the landlords and mention the animal. "Hey bob, hows that cat?"

If you get kicked out, crawl up into the attic and see if you can drop things inbetween walls, some places you can drop food and roadkill behind the walls. Easy to drop in, hard as hell to get out, and the house will stink of rotten foulness.

Man! that is disturbing.  I may not like someone, but to hurt someone's pet would be akin to shooting the hostage instead of the hostage taker.  My dog took one look at your post and hid under the bed!

There are advantages to going after the pet though. First, harming the animal will most likely have a stronger psychological impact on the person you are targeting, than if you just beat them up, or intimidated them. You would be demonstrating that you are quite capable of performing violence, and you are unglued and disturbed enough that your actions could be completely unpredictable.

also, as i said before, then animal cant rat you out. The criminal penatalys for injuring an animal are less than that of attacking a person. If you went over to your landlords house and kicked his ass, you might get charged with attempted murder, or anything really. Probably assult, who knows... But theres a good chance you will spend 6 months to  2 or more years in jail. F that. You would get a slap on the wrist for blasting his cat with a shot gun.

Dont get me wrong, i think hurting animals is an awful thing, and i would never do anything like that, but some people probably have the mind set where they could, and it might prove useful to them in helping convince people about something.

When i see all these orgs that help animals like that, it kind of pisses me off. In general people care more about animals than they do eachother. People despise the homeless man living on the street, but are more than hapy to break off half of their sandwich for a stray dog.

My point was that animals don't really get to *choose* their owners....other way around.  So let's say landlord kicks dog's arse every day for no good reason but just because he's a miserable barstard.  So you and the dog really have something in common, you both want to see the landlord dead.  Dogs are usually submissive to their *owner*, especially when abused, so they can't do the deed themselves.

So let's just pretend I'm the dog.  I'm happy as hell that my SOB landlord master is out for the day.  I'm walking along the street thinking to myself 'Gee, I've got eight hours before my next arse kicking, what joy!'.  Just admiring the scenery, maybe thinking about chasing a cat when you happen along and unload buckshot in my hind-quarters.  'Geez, thanks a freakin' lot, that just made my day!  I might as well just go off and bleed to death now because my *master* isn't going to spend a nickel to have the vet remove 100 pellets from my backside!'

Well in many ways animals are better than people. I can't imagine one animal telling another to gouge out somebody's eye just to piss off another animal.

Animal abuse is awful. I could never do it because well, they are cute and fury. How the hell could you poke the eye out on a creature thats happy to see you... Though there is a point i made, but it's only applicable to people who are far removed from normal human emotion.

Well -- a little more detail into your problem would definately help.

I suggest you contact your state government.
All states have a complete set of laws (and documents) showing  Landlord's rights as well as tenent's rights.
You can familiarize yourself with state's laws and confront your landlord  --  armed with good information  you can gain an upper hand..  (You would be suprised with some of the laws that protect the tenent!!!  and some of the things that the Landlord CANNOT get away with!!!)

for instance,  here in CT  our laws and rights are located at:
http://www.jud.state.ct.us/lawlib/Law/landlord.htm

Anyways -- hope this helps
