There would be no way that the Amiga operating system would be freed like that. Too many people put their dirty hands in it's cookie pot, and too many self righteous people hold or think they hold key patents to it's technologies.
Excuse me while I beat my PDA up in anger of some brainless companies.

Well... I think that if google gets interested in the Amiga (unlikely) there's no way the right owners will keep them instead of selling.
-
I'm sure Goobuntu (or whatever it is eventually called) will run E-UAE (the standard Ubuntu does), so we'll get it Amiga-ised somehow!

Well.... Hell of a lot more likely than nintendo buying amiga....
The article was crap. It provided nothing more than one guys assenine rumour. "Googles gonna write an os, googles gonna write a browser, googles gonna markit their own brand of toiler paper" I actually lost some respect for theregister.co.uk The site has always been annoying to me because they often use the following words in their stupid rants: Tosspot, boffin, punter, etc.
It reminds me of brittish humour, which i find awful. I would almost rather slit my wrists than be subjected to monty python refrences.
But hey, dont player hate my american ass for knowing that our comedy is better, after all we got bush and yall got all the a1200's apparantly.

what does your problem w/ the register has to do with google buying amiga?
-
Anyway, do you really want to see google (or some big investor) buying amiga? Let's start a "self fulfilling prophecy" (http://www.accel-team.com/pygmalion/). Just spreading the word google will buy amiga rights and develop a new Amiga OS to run on x86 machines will get google (or any other competitor) interested in the thing and the prophecy will fulfill itself.

No problem with theregister realy... They just post crap from time to time. And there was nothing in the article that would convince a retarded person that google was gonna put up a linux distro.

@Koaftder:

I'm guessing that if google got involved, they would buy Amiga just so they could officially put it to rest, that way all the amireligious could get on with their lives.
And it would be a philanthropy effort at that, so they would probably get to write all of it off on their taxes.

ahahahahah. that would be great

Google denied they were building a "Google PC".
If anything, it's just another distro. A different package of tools, but the core is the same.
-
this is not a google pc. it's a google os and they didn't deny it. they confirmed.

And where is it actually confirmed that they will do this?
-
Google has confirmed it is working on a desktop linux project called Goobuntu, but declined to supply further details, including what the project is for.

and I know a fair few English (we are all british after all!) people (my wife for one) who dislike Monty Python too.
so its not British humour, just surreal.
and another thing - one of the Pythons is American - Terry Gilliam.
-
Hmmmn, Google running off a cluster of A1200s. :-)
-
Hi,
As far as "Goobuntu" goes, it has now been denied (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060131-6087.html) by Google...

It worked with Christ didn't it!? ^^
PS- please don't start any mass riots against me or Portugal, I'm only stating the obvious!
