Title: Can you say 'Altavista' ?
Post by: iamaboringperson on January 27, 2006, 10:16:59 PM
Google caves in to China (http://www.finance.news.com.au/story/0,10166,17937872-462,00.html?from=rss)
I'm wondering if anybody has seen this news.

This is just great ... is it time to find a new search engine?

In fairness they didn't give in to latest US government attempts to force the handover of IP details etc.

The Google lawyers told the US government where to get off after some 'court case' where it was demanded that all records of traffic, e-mail contacts etc. be handed over.

It's Microsoft that always rolls over and has it's belly tickled. AOL, Yahoo too... a$$ kissers!

According to slashdot, it seems might not be as bad as it is hyped. First of all, Yahoo, MSN and others are told to be there and censor already. It is said, that the difference with Chinese Google is, that it made an agreemend with China, that when running a search some results do not appear being censored, Google displays information that search results were censored. So at least users know, that there might be something more, but due to cesoring, he cannot see it.
