I have an A590 hard drive on my miggy 500 with the original 20Mb XT drive, with no bad sectors at all, with the full standard 2Mb of Ram.
It doesn't have the original box.
I would be very intregued to see what you all think this magical piece of kit would be worth, rarity and money-wise.

Depends where you are at and if unit is in good or bad shape/Yellowed. A mint unit complete with box is around $150ish. A loose unit in great shape around $80 or so. If it is yellowed even lower.

A very good SCSI controller, but the 20 MB WD XT drive is slow, usually quickly dying crap; mine lasted 8 months - apart from collector's value that is.
-
What kind of disks can be used to substitute the original drive?
-
I believe the A590 is switchable between using SCSI and XT drives... The SCSI drives it works with are standard 3.5" 50-pin ones, available very cheaply second hand...

I'd like to have a A590 *mint* for my mint A500 system :)

You could substitute the existing drive with a SCSI drive upto 2 Gigabyte capacity or a 20 Meg IDE drive - whichever you prefer :-)

its switchable between scsi and xt isnt it; not ide, or are you just saying that you dont like ide
xt hard drives have 8bit ide style interface which are not compatible with modern ide drives which are backwards compatible to the 16bit level. xt drives can handle about 80megs.

I installed a nice 1GB SCSI drive on mine and it works great under AmigaDOS 1.3 ! I also installed 2MB Fast RAM in mine since it came with 0k. See my image gallery for a pic!
