Hi to all, i'm new on this forum but not on the Amiga world, i'm an old Amiga user(i have an Amiga 500, 600, 1200), i made some programs for Amiga (you can search balrog on aminet if someone are interested).
I bought an Amiga 600 from ebay on december of last year, it was working very nice two weeks, but last weekend it dead, the problem is that it crash before show the kickstart screen, after crash the Amiga don't show a guru message, when i insert a disk it crash also. I tried to disconnect all the hardware to know if the problem is located on the floppy disk, keyboard, kickstart, and it seems to have the same problem with the motherboard only. I don't know what can be the problem, i think that my A600 should show a colored screen if it have a serius hardware problem. I hope that someone can help me.
Bye.

Sounds like faulty power supply.
-
I agree with Erol. Try a different PSU..
-
I forget to say that i tried with three different power supplies, the power supply of A600, other of A500, and other of a PC tower that i have mounted with my A1200, and it have the same problems. And a few secods after power on the power led flash like a crash but without the guru message.

Check those little pencil eraser sized silver caps near the RF Modulator for leaks. I have an A600 with such damage and it won't do anything other than grey screen.
-
When I last checked my A600 it was "dead for no reason" too. Tried lots of PSUs, I don't even get a grey screen. No power LED, nothing.
It couldn't be less responsive if you took the motherboard out and replaced it with a cardboard mockup :-(

I solved the problem, i bought a A600 motherboard 2D revision (last revision of A600 with a revision on Gayle chip also), and now i have my A600 with a 512mb harddisk and 2mb of chip. Now the problem is transfer programs from pc to my A600, my notebook don't have floppy disk, and i'm waiting a CF pcmcia reader for a fast transfer of big files between my A1200, A600 and my notebook. Thanks to all...
-
sorry for your a600, i can't even imagine how i'll react if something... well forget it...
i don't thing that this solution solved the problem, the dead mobo is still dead... but it's good that you keep on going :)

all amiga 600's are prone to power failures due to weak/blown caps. check spiranto's message in the second thread. btw, don't trash your a600 board, it's probably repairable.

I started the first thread in countzero's list last week. As the thread ends, I pulled the 600 motherboard and shipped it to Amiga Center, France for repair along with my A4000 mboard which was losing sound and the par: port.
Good news is I'm told they sound repairable.
While looking around the web this afternoon I found A600 mother boards (refurb) at Amigakit.com. I just ordered a spare.

Lots of ebay dealers and Amiga dealers are doing A600 boards, so you can easily replace that instead of trying to track down faults for days at a time. Also, some people are selling A600s on ebay for next to nothing, so it might be worth just buying another. If your case and keyboard are in better condition than the one you buy, you can chop and change bits to get the best system from 2 machines.

Last night i was playing to Hired Guns (installed on HD) with a friend, after half hour the controllers started to make strange things, joystick don't work to up, and mouse don't work very well with vertical movements. This problems appeared when i received the motherboard, but i changed the a600 psu for my old a500 psu (more weight) that have more power, and the problems disappeared until yesterday. I don't know if it can be a problem of power, or if it's a problem with motherboard... My A600 have this hardware connected, 2.5" HD of 512 mb, 1 Mb chip ram extension, mouse and joystick, and i use an old A500 psu, that i think that must be enough.

Hi,
Check the ROM chip isn't loose.
Take electrostatic precautions and carefully push down on the ROM chip to make sure it's seated correctly.

I think that i solved the problem, it was the mouse, i tried with other mouse and work perfectly. The hd was not working very nice when i used the mouse and the original A600 psu (eg. s directory was corrupted after install wb and reboot), but without the mouse it works perfectly. It is very strange that a broken mouse can cause this behavior to the computer, but i was using my amiga this weekend with other mouse, and it works very nice. One question more, when i use a rgb wire to a scart or rgb connection of tv, it seem to change the brightness when i open a window on wb, it appeared to be darker. I don't remember if this is normal...
-
maybe this has to do with the content of each window, an empty window is brighter than a full of icons one?
-
yes, it something like this, the size of the window also affect, i can't try my A600 with my Amiga monitor i don't have it on the city that i work, i have connected my A600 on television.
-
that's even worst, i connect once my a1200 to a panasonic 14' tv and i don't want to remember that experiance... in a 21' grundig that i used the first days the image was better bus with less contrast. finaly i thing that is nothing to worry about.
