:o. That looks scary, I'm sure I'd break all the pins.

Hmm, I'll have to look into this if I ever get around to towering my 1200.  Not completely sure what's involved.  Did you strip a PCMCIA card of its casing, to access the contacts in a different fashion?

I just went ahead and bought the angle adapter.
The adapters are hand made in the UK somewhere. Sometimes
for a hobby computer you need to cough-up the cash
in respect of folks that take the time to make
custom adapters like this.

If you have the time/energy/tools to make your own adapter
more power to you.  Its probably a fun project.  However,
lets not poo-poo a piece of hardware because it is out of your price range.  Calling something "overpriced" is quite a knock.  Have you seen what some stuff goes for on e-bay these days?

Anyway, good luck with your adapter project.

Overpriced?: two connectors for 20 quids

yes, card is strpipped and connector is carefuly bended, no broken pins  :-D
And if you broke some pin, well, there is a bunch of other cards for 5 eur or less

I did something similar a while back.
However, I tend to take my amiga apart every now and again, and the bent pins only survived a few removals-and-replacements before a few of them broke.  Confused the hell out of me why my networking suddenly stopped working, as it shwed EXACTLY the same symptoms as a power shortage I'd fixed a few weeks before.

Good luck though - hope it lasts longer than mine did. :-)

What's the card on the picture? A wiFi adapter?

Anyway, i am looking for a better project for PCMCIA in a towerizd 1200: i would like to have a PCMCIA slot handy in a 3,5' bay on the front of my tower, connected with some cable to the actual PCMCIA slot on the mobo, freely accessible to any CF reader or WiFi board or anything useful. Haven't found the proper stuff to do that so far...

Thats just crazy enough it just might work!!  lol

Is there a limitation to the lenght of cable for something like the PCMCIA bus?  How far from the connection on the motherboard to an external PCMCIA slot in a drive bay?  Would signal degradation be a problem?

If I towered my 1200, I would certianly want to have external access to the PCMCIA slot.

No wifi, its a x-jack connector on basic 10mbit 3com ethernet card 589. as i say cost around 4 eur one piece - good material for testing

I've been thinking doing something like this too. It would be handy to flip the NIC full 180 degrees to make it fully internal. For both A1200 and A600.

Have you seen the price of PCMCIA connectors in small quantities?
Also, add in the price for a small run of PCBs to solder them to.

I was gonna build one myself, but after I priced it up it was cheaper to buy one ready made.

sorry, i must just laugh..

how to say it. European market is against homemade whatever, but not always, and not our:

BLPK22-S068H5 - Lowprofile pcmcia smd male connector = 36,-CzK (0.8 GBP)

and bunh co pcm you cam made for approx 60czk (1-10pieces)

180 degree bend will be not possible i think

can anybody close this tread? :)

its agains amiga community

In what way is it against the community?  Do you mean that some people saying that users should not hack their own hardware is against the community?  Or saying that some vendors have overpriced products is against the community?  Why do you think the thread should be closed?

I just want to give hint howto directly use €4 pcmcia card in a tower.
But there are many votes agains it

Hey, take it easy Chain. That was a novel way of solving a problem.
I was only taking issue with the 'overpriced' comment, not slamming you for trying something different. (BTW. I you'd have said 'expensive' I'd agree with you.)
Sorry if I caused any offence.

Some of you might have seen this picture before.
This is my sollution to the pcmcia/tower problem. I do not know how long the wires can be before data error...

I almost forgot... I used a pccard slot from a old dead laptop which I got for free from a local pcstore. The whole build didn't cost more than that ide cable I used. Probably spent 3-4 hours with the soldering iron. Had to do the motherboard side twice because I didn't pay attention and ended up with all the connections backwards... Thank God it didn't kill the motherboard when I tested it.

I get the same as _ThEcRoW.

@ dawpiper.

Nice work. I'd like my pcmcia in a bay to be honest and that could be just the way to do it. :pint:
