Wondering what would be most cost effective way to get an amiga or PC to read 5.25 apple iie disks? Friend of mine has his deceased wife's diary on apple iie 5.25 disks.
He still has apple iie working machine with disk drives, but would like to get info onto 3.5 disks.
I Own an a3000 with no 5.25 drive
Is there a way to get a winxp machine to read apple 5.25?
Someone suggested I get an apple iic plus.
Any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks
LF :-)

If he's got a terminal app on that apple 2 that might be the best way to do it. Fire up hyperterm on the pc and do an xmodem transfer. Any other solution would probably require you to buy something.
If theres a tape deck, you could move the file to the tape, then play the tape in a tape player hooked up to a pc sound card, there are apps for converting the audio data back into the original file on the pc.
You could write a little basic program to move the file over the serial port, and use qbasic on the pc to capture the data.
If i remember, you can get into the basic intrepreter on the old apple 2 whatever machines by rapidly flipping the power switch.

Hi,
I'm not shure, but I think CrossDos can read Apple IIe disk format. The only think you have to do is to gain a 5.25 floppy disk drive for your Amiga via eBay. The last time I've purchased one I've paid less than 10 EUR incl. shipping for such a drive.

I would use a Mac with network support and (external) 5.25" drive. And copy those an other machine and burn those on CD.
But it also depends on the format of the documents.

I believe you can use a 3.5" drive on a IIe.

what model was the 5.25 drive? I have been told that the amiga 1020 drive (working condition) is rare...not sure if this is true or not. Anyhow, this would be the simplest way I think.
Thank you guys for the suggestions.. :-)

Only application disk I have seen so far is his apple writer - word processor program. He does have the serial port I believe, since he has an old imagewriter printer hooked to it.
