Yes. You can also use bigger drives than 2 GB.

also 20gb? And, i have afraid for another problem: :-( the orange cable (if i send a photo you can see, but i guess is the comunicator for the hard disk with the amiga) looks like cutted... so what it uses only IDE cable to comunicate and for power?
-
i thing that the 2.5 disks don't use xtra power cable, they take the supply from the ide cable, but... i'm not sure...
for use of more than 4gb disks you need to install amigaos 3.5/3.9 OR a patched version of FFS and scsi.device in os3.1. the ''How do i...'' is an other story!
-
I take back everything I said.

Hi CDE_MusiX,
A 3.5" drive needs an extra power cable, but the 2.5" takes the power through the ribbon cable (you do not need extra power cable). What has been cut though ? Is this the old "Cut one (specific) wire if the drive doesn't start up quick enough" trick ? Please let us know what has been cut so we can help more.

if i use hard disks with more of 4gb i can't install theres? (I want only to use the MAX partition space (4gb), not all the hard disk space)
-
if you mean that you wand to install a 2.5 inch disk that has more than 4gb, of course you can, but you need os 3,5 or 3,9 to handle right partitions bigger than 4gb. OR if you know well the amiga os you can do it and with 3,1 workbench patched properly for that purpose.
-
What I did on my A1200 with a 20G 2.5" IDE was to make a standard 2G FFS partition at the very start of the drive. This partition can be read by the stock 3.1 ROM in the A1200 no trouble. The OS then loads the FS and patched IDE driver from 3.5 so that other partitions (and larger partitions) can be read/written after booting. That works fine (for me).

i not know well AmigaOS, damn me!!! :furious:
But i know the concept it i have need the CD-ROM driver to install 3.5 Version (or not? for the 3.5 exists also a Floppy Drive basic version? This cause i have basic builment on my A1200 (68020 Processor with 2Mb chip RAM, AGA, no FAST RAM), *@&! . :madashell:
-
even the exist of only some fast ram dubles the speed of the 1200 so you have to find a memory card or better an accelarator with at least a 68030 cpu and some ram instaled on it. the cdrom driver consept it's easy to solve: go to http://aminet.net/search.php?path=disk/cdrom and you'll find a lot
-
thanks for the drivers (Aminet you are great!!!), there help me when i buy a CD-ROM interface... but this is the problem: i haven't the "DRIVE" not the "driver"! So what: i have to buy somethin' or just use a serial/parallel interface to connect the AMIGA to the PC Drive? (IDEA  i have a unused CD-ROM of an old Pentium, so what i can use him? (af, i haven't the power cable))
-
you can use your unused pc cdrom but you need an ide cable to do this. the cheaper solution is to buy an adaptor for the internal ide port of the a1200 44 pins to 40 pins. then you can connect a 3,5 disk in the one port of the cable as a master and the cdrom to the other as a slave. in the driver of the cdrom you set then scsi.device unit 1 and it's ok. check in amigakit if you don't have this kind of adaptor
-
oh oh... there now born the problems...
An 3.5 Hard-disk and CD-ROM drive has need not only the IDE cable but also a power supply (4 pins)
For the IDE Cable Converter there are not problemsm i can buy one at any moment, but first solve this problem.
-
yes the power is a small problem. i have a 150W ps for my amiga and i connect the cdrw directly with the ps

@CDE_MusiX:
To make things easy to begin with, just get a 2.5" laptop harddrive and install the Workbench that came with your computer.
With that Workbench (3.0 or 3.1) practically everything works and it also needs much less resources (3.9 needs more than the A1200s stock 2MB chipmem to be really usable).
Also if you plan to attach an external CD-rom you will also need to get a beefier powersupply.

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=985735
there are many articleas about it. this system DOEZ NOT HAVE BACKDOOR for removing password etc
-
How do you now that the harddrive is locked?
Does Amiga regonize it anyway? is Amiga asking for the password when trying to partition and formating the drive?
-
nope, harddrive will not be recognized in miggy :boohoo:
-
Jep that is what i was afraid of..

Hey guys, i'm back! :-D
I have leaved Amiga.org for 1 year, but i say this: i have buyed a 527Mb 2.5 hard-drive preformatted AMIGA and it WORKS! Now my next target is to install a CD-ROM drive, but i have a question: it comes found on AmigaOS(WB) 3.0 like a normal disk drive?
