Since everybody has been harping on how bad security is on win32, i'd like to know what people think of the level of security on amiga os.
I'm guessing that the security on AOS 4 is awful, but my oppinion is obviously worthless, as ive never even seen it nor have i had a chance to kick it around/ poke at it with a stick.
Would you run a webserver on it? Would you use it as a shell host and let random people toy around with it?
Wouldnt it be sad if when AOS4 actually gets out into the wild, gets followed up on FRSirt with a few dozen exploits?

I believe that there is not security of any kind, other than security by obscurity. :-)

I doubt it is very secure. But as it is now, then i would not have problems with running a webserver and such. Why could run it now, is because the system aint popular enough for people to find holes in security.
I recall a bunch of viruses floating around back when it was a popular system.

Bad things:
- no security on user level: it's not possible to run a web server at non-root security settings (so even when compromised, it couldn't do much harm)
- no memory protection: there's no limit to what any compromised binary could do to the running system
- little attention from security experts, security flaws may go unnoticed for a long time
Good things:
- very exotic platform, so very little probability that a untargeted attack would find the right platform
- little probability security issues would even be explored by the experts
As long as you can't close the whole system for security (e.g. static content from a CDROM), I wouldn't run a server off of an Amiga.

I'm pretty sure that more people are willing to find security flaws for BeOS then they are going to look for OS4.
Most of the "hackers" of today are bored script kiddies that have nothing better to do with there time then to pull adolescent pranks on people and cause trouble.
