Title: Booting Am*gaXL instead of Am*thlon?
Post by: kd7ota on April 08, 2003, 03:36:05 PM
Hello,
Its been some time since I have been away in the Amiga scene. I want to get back into it. I want to know something first.  How do I boot AmigaXL on a Athlon based PC? I have tried AmigaXL on a non-athlon processor, and it worked with QNX,but then I ran into the problem where AmigaXL would stop and close and then return to the QNX desktop. Any help would be great. Thanks.

You still need to QNX to use AmigaOSXL, even on athlon machines.

Amithlon on the other hand, will work on all x86 without QNX. There was a how-to install it on it's own partition, but I've no longer remember the link.

You need to install QNX to run AmigaXL. There is no alternative.

However, there is no reason to assume that whatever was crashing AmigaXL was CPU related. While it is true Amithlon was tested for Athlon processors, this is not necessarily the case with AmigaXL. The latter may have problems with P4 processors, because H&P have failed to release the source code that would allow a bug to be fixed, but this might not be what crashed AmigaXL previously.
