Hey I am trying to get the Actionware games (POW, Capone, Prison) to work with a Atari XEGS Lightgun? I heard these are the same lightguns that Actionware used? Anyone know? I plugged it in and tried it and no go, tried the mouse port and joy port. Bummer.

Was about to post a similar question and caught this unanswered post.
Six year old bump!
Anyone know what's up with the Actionware light gun? Sounds like it's obviously not an Atari compatible thing which is strange and a shame. I've got this faux 8-bit Nintendo light gun with a DB9 end I should try on a game I just received recently: P.O.W.
It's also strange how the A1000 and the A500/A2000 usage of the gun apparently differs according to the manual.

Afaik there was two different companies making lightgun games for the amiga and the loghtguns differ too. But if you run the games with WHDLoad i think you can play them with any gun. The best lightgun is said to be the Mastersystem lightphazer with an adapter.
Check this thread on EAB for more info

I have the light phaser but where can I get an adapter?

You'll have to make the adapter yourself. But it's very simple. Check the EAB thread above.

Could the problem the original poster is experiencing stem from using these guns with an LCD monitor rather than a CRT monitor (with horizontally scanning ray)?
I know that light pens will not work on LCD monitors because of this.
But I think light guns only care about seeing a "bright spot" on the screen (photosensor) rather than the location of the scanning gun, so my theory is probably off.

No, pretty sure the oldschool light guns don't work with LCDs, good point.
