Title: New hard drive for an A2000.
Post by: KapitanKlystron on April 08, 2003, 02:14:30 AM
I have got an 1 gB hard drive for my A2000. It's a Fujitsu SCSI.  I have a GVP 030 accelerator and 2.04 roms in the computer. WIll I be able to use it or will I have to upgrade some other stuff 1st?

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but if it's a 50pin scsi it SHOULD work A-OK out of the box. I'm assuming you have a reasonable scsi card, you didn't mention.

The accelerator is also a SCSI card. The hard drive thats in there is a 52mB Quantum 50 pin drive.

Ok, still not much info:-) It's probably a C= A2091 SCSI board I'd guess, they were common in A2000s. But still AFAIK all known Zorro SCSI cards should be able to handle a 1Gig HD. Check to make sure the terminator is in place on the drive.

Thanks for the help.  I hope to put it in over the weekend. I haven't set a hard drive for an amiga or actually ever done a SCSI drive. So it might get interesting. The card is a GVP combo accelerator 22mHz 030/memory/scsi  card . It is old like the computer but it beats the A1000 and A500 I also have. :-D

OOOH! I see the SCSI is on the GVP accelerator! I didn't get that the first time around :-D  I thought you meant it was on a separate card.

Try it out, don't frustrated. If you hit a snag come back here and ask. You may need the original install/utility disks that came with your GVP accelerator. It should have some kind of HD utility for partitioning, initializing etc.

After reading the rest of your posts, I'll assume you at least have GVP's Faaastprep utility on hand. It's simple to use and does a little more than HDToolBox does.

If you don't have that, find a copy of HDToolBox on your original disks and either change the scsi.device tooltype to gvpscsi.device or start HDToolBox from a command line with gvpscsi.device as a parameter.

IE:> hdtoolbox gvpscsi.device

should do the trick.

Actually, you should be able to install a SCSI CD-ROM into the 5ΒΌ" tray also; that is (of course) if there is not such there already!

The difficulty is that the Floppy-Drive shelf has to come off to reach that.

Don't forget that there will be a DB25 on the rear of the Combo on which to attach an external SCSI chain.

@Desmon:

Yep I 've got the GVP Utility and my copy of WB 2.04 waiting for me to try it  this weekend.

@all

In case you're interested, you may find updated versions of the GVP hard drive prep tools at the GVP-M website (http://www.gvp-m.com/gvpmfiles/updatejapan.html).
