April 27th 2003 will constitute the 8th year that I, and my local user group (NASAU) has run this site for the Amiga community.
As with most old rollercoasters, the ride started out to be a lot of fun but has grown to a point where we feel like we're being jerked around harder and harder by fast, short hills near the end.
After discussing it with a few friends, we've decided that there's no reason at the current time to close this site, so we renewed for one more year.
Hopefully by the time our 9th anniversary rolls around, someone (Amiga? Genesi? Eyetech? Hyperion? Bueller? Bueller?) will have built the brakes for the rollercoaster by actually producing a real replacement solution for the classic desktop. After all, our hardware isn't getting any younger.
I just wish I had thought earlier to ask for a donation of prizes from our retail friends so we could have some sort of contest to spike the interest around here.

Happy anniversary Amiga.org !!!
PS: Keep up the good work. Well done Wayne and all the others.

-
wow ! 8 years of good (or even better) work :-D
congrats to you (wayne) and all who supported this good piece ;-)
-
Cheers Wayne your a star :-)
Miggy.org as i like to call it is a nice balance.
Not full of W@**€rs like ANN. 12 More months gets my vote.
Start the merchandising again and I'll buy another tee-shirt to help support :-) Keep the shipping costs a bit cheaper to Europe this time if you can. Got stung by UK customs for import duty last time.
If your in Middle England an need a free bed for the night drop me a mail.
-
@JurassicCamper
Talk to Kees re merchandise in Europe.
Wayne
-
Cheers, Wayne! :pint:
Thanks for being so patient with us! :-)
Now get that merchandising thingy running, so one can support AO by other means than that horrible paypal... :ranting: :-D :-D
-
Keep up the good work guys.
I'll definately buy some merchandise from you :-D
-
How about some AO boing ball bb shots for my bb gun... or some yo-balls? (http://www.neath-porttalbot.gov.uk/ehts/eh20030430.html)
He-he!
NB: yo-balls are banned, see link above.
-
Nice one keep up the good work. :-D
-
Yo Wayne!!!
Your site IS THE BEST THING GOING in the Amiga world!
Certainly the only Amiga-surfing I do anymore
Hats off to you!
-
Thank you very much. I'll try not to let my quest for the truth get in the way.
-
Keep it up, Wayne. This is the best amiga site
around...period.
-
will have built the brakes for the rollercoaster
Brakes? Brakes are for wimps. ;-)
Lets hope that we will get back to being a community again.
Cheers for the services for the last 8 years, it's been crucial for the survival of the platform while it's been out of the mainstream.
-
@Wayne
Good to hear. Glad you'll be around to see the fun that's about to take shape. :-)
-
A.org is 'tip top'. A virtual home from home for many people here
Happy 8th birthday :pint:,
Keep up the good work Wayne :-)
@Vincent,
I dig the avatar mate, reminds me of this guy I know :lol:
-
It has a nice balance cause it doesn't let Anonymous
people to post. If you meant the ANONYMOUS wankers, ok...
If not, thanx a lot for offending me:)
-
Happy birthday, for something that is now a part of
yourself:)
-
Yep, we'll have A LOT of fun if Amiga Inc collapses...
And even more if what you claim is true and they have
money reserves, which means that they lied to the
authorities and the court:)
Believe me... You're in DEEP s***
-
Happy anniversary Amiga.org! :-D
-
@Wayne & amiga.org:
Congratulations! Keep up the good work...
-
Gratz guys.
Much appreciation to you all.
:-D

Still a great site! :-)
Keep up the good work and many thanks for the effort you have put into it!

Amiga.org: The God of all Amiga websites (including Amiga.com) :-)
-
Excellent.
-
It would be nice if one could get "official" Amiga.org t-shirt! :-D
-
@Paul_Gadd
Dude, your obsessed with Mr Sheen :-)
-
It would be nice if one could get "official" Amiga.org t-shirt!
For that, you'll need to contact the user Kees. I think he was working on that, last I heard.
-
Hey Wayne,
Keep up the great work!! Not many people would come out of their shells and tell how much they appreciate to keep us informed--unless they can prove me wrong! Happy anniversary Amiga.org! :-)
-
Dude, your obsessed with Mr Sheen
:lol: When you have that awsome power at your finger tips then we will see who is the obsessed one :-D
I left a cup of tea on my desk last night and woke up to a ring on the desk so i reached for Mr Sheen spray bottle (with new formula) and the worktop now looks as if it was bought today.
-
@AmiGR
Spin that tale.. Too bad your ball is in the wrong park. :roflmao:
P.S. Atta boy, nice way to trash Wayne's thread.
-
This is a great place to visit on a regular basis, loads of good people and good info to share. Keep up the good work you've been doing Wayne (and all of you unsung Amiga.org hero's).
Best Regards.....Art :-D
-
That long already.. We're getting old. :-/
Anyway, Happy Birthday Amiga.org!

Congratulations!
I'm really impressed with the people on amiga.org forums, their knowledge, their manners, and most of all their spirit! There is a lot of bickering, yes, but I think that's just a sign of good health :-D
I don't think anyone is this enthusiastic about any other OS/computer that is as obscure as the Amiga.
Or any other system for that matter...
And Amiga.org is a great place for fanatics like us...
Thanks Wayne&gang and please don't stop at one more year, keep going!
-
Thanks Wayne :-D
-
One of the things I did get right was to enable Wayne to keep Amiga.org.
Amiga.org has always been there for the Users!
At the same time targeted by the power hungry corporate ass kissers that felt the need to control what the community was suppose to hear. Amiga.org got me into trouble many times but every minute was worth it!
Wayne and others that will go unnamed fought to keep it out of the hands of the Weasels and Pin Dicks that made up Gateway Executive Staff.
You have done a great service to the Amiga Community and I respect the hell out of you for it. I lost the fight for what is right and was chewed up and spit out by the politics and legal bullshit that was Amiga.Inc. (Gateway)
You are a fighter Wayne and I salute you!
I just wish I could have done more for everyone but I see that nothing has changed at HQ.
Wayne was there to pull the daggers out of my back both from the community and from my peers. With out him and other close friends in the community, the community would not have lasted the first year of Gateway.
Thank you! ;-)
Carry on the good fights Wayne and I am planning on seeing you soon!
Darreck Lisle
Amiga, Inc Scapegoat
-
;-) This is the best Amiga site that I've encountered to date. As well as being the best site for news and information, It's a fun place to spend the idle moment. I've enjoyed the previous year, visiting here.
:pint: Here's to many more.
-
@Smaug2
What has Amiga Inc done to you to make you bitter?
Or are you just attacking a well loved and respected company for no reason but to cause mayhem?
-
@Wayne
Glad to hear it. Agreed about the *real* replacement sentence. Happy Birthday!
@Amigr
Troll.
-
Wayne: let's see what Hyperion has for us first. I salute Amiga.org!!
Paul_gadd: stop being such a fan-boy. We'll see who has the better product. Be it Genesi or Hyperion, I'll support the most promising company. Unlike so many people here, I don't give a sh*t who delivers first, so long as they deliver.
I don't care what you all think! :-D I want my computing experience back. Whichever company delivers it first get my money. :-P
-
@Paul
Not Amiga Inc as you know it, but GATEWAY's Amiga Inc. A whole other beast. The stuff is thick, and we ALL should be thanking Smaug2!!! You do realize that HMetal's basic website was completely based on Smaug2's?
-
@Darreck Lisle
You have been sorely missed by the community. I hope you can finally come back. Your enthusasm, gumption, and willingness to help others has been a true example of what this community is supposed to be about. I only hate that you took so much heat on our behalf without being able to take any credit.
:pint: :-) Can we welcome you back yet?!!? :-)
-
@Targhan
And if you did your research, you'd know that Amiga.com isn't "HMetal's Basic Website."
Clue: It was "Ted Wallingford's Basic Website" and it was he that put that site into place long before I took over the amiga.com site.
Bonus Clue: The only site that is "HMetal's Basic Website" is os.amiga.com.
Nice try though.. :lol:
-
Paul_gadd: stop being such a fan-boy.
Fan of Amiga Inc? please tell me that was a joke and with my past comments about Amiga Inc that would have been the last thing i would have thought someone would have called me.
Fan Boy :roflmao:
@Targhan
Interesting. welcome Darreck Lisle.
-
@HMetal
You realise that there are quite a lot of mis-informed people floating around this 'Amiga' market place. You might actually be responsible for this.
It would help a lot if the AmigaInc website was updated more often with all these news items floating around.
Ask Fleecy and other announcements should really be posted on the amiga.com site, or at least have a link on the amiga.com website to where these things are posted.
You could go a long way into resolving this mis-information if you were pro-active about this, instead of sitting back and spazzing on everyone! :-D
And work with Rogue of Hyperion as well, to get the correct information about amigaOS4 released.
Thanks! :-D
-
Clue for HMetal: You claim webmaster for amiga.com over and over again. If you don't specify os.amiga.com, then everyone expects you to be responsable for the whole thing. That is how things work ;-)
Bottom Line: The corporate side of Amiga.com is STILL Darreck's design. Of coarse, it looked MUCH more impressive by 1998 standards.
If you do not want to be associated with Ted's use of Darreck's design, you should have specified webmaster for os.amiga.com :lol:
-
Bueller? Bueller?
:lol:
nice one Wayne, keep it up !
-
@Darth_X
Ah, but if you have really read everything I've written in the last months, you'd see that I've corrected people on this many times. This isn't the first time I've said that, while I am webmaster and web application programmer for and of all of amiga's sites, I didn't design them all.
As for AmigaOS4, we release information from Ben and the rest of Hyperion when we are provided with such.
You're welcome. :-D
-
@Targhan
I really don't care what Amiga uses for a design for a given website. Just consider the extra knowledge, that HMetal didn't design that specific amiga.com layout, Targhan's lesson for the day. :lol:
Edit: Actually, I do care about the design but the new one isn't ready quite yet.
-
HMetal wrote:

Are you implying that all the bogus (and imminent, like in 2, 3 weeks, even in interviews) release dates floating around from Amiga Inc. since last november (or even more earlier) were provided by Hyperion? Or were those Bill McEwen's and Fleecy's own makeups?
-
@Warface
Did I say that? No.
-
But if that's the case Hmetal I'd personally
enjoy a "lesson" as to who did give them that
bogus info...not Hyperion then?
-
This is the only website that holds any www. interest for me!!
Congrats Wayne and co!! :)
-
@HMetal
Actually, when I think about it, I'm glad that Amiga Inc used Darreck's design. It was a design created from the heart of the community. While it did look much better in 1998, there is still a history that is distinctly Amiga with that design.
An idea for you as the webmaster of Amiga.com HMetal: Why not have a gallery of sorts showing screenshots of Amiga.com's changes through it's history? ;-) No one said you couldn't have a little fun right?
(translation: we are getting close to bickering, and this thread should be more fun than that!)
-
@Smaug2
As the ONLY true friend that I, and Amiga.org have ever had at Gateway, or even the current owners, Allow me to say you are sorely missed. I truly hope you can join me and the rest of the "Huntsville Mafia" and honorary guest Kermit at AmiWest in July.
You come, we'll supply the beverages... Perhaps we'll even get lucky enough to get rousted by the cops again.
@the rest of the Amiga.org membership.
Never speak of situations that you are not aware of. Darreck Lisle is the ONLY person who has ever worked for any Amiga company who has understood the need and the value of supporting the Amiga community. Without him and his support in the past, the community you enjoy, and very well this site would not be here today.
It is a fact that until the current owners came into ruling power, this community was thriving, everyone was enthusiastic, and hardly anyone fought over such stupid things as we see today. I'm not asking for debate, I'm not inviting your opinion. I'm simply stating the facts as I know them to be.
There are very few people in the world that I will defend where the Amiga is concerned. Darreck Lisle is one of them.
-
Wow Wayne, I've never heard you hold someone in such high regard, this guy must of been good.
Please forgive my lack of knowledge but who was Darreck Lisle and what did he do? I've only been into Amigas since late 98 and netted since 99 and so I'm not too up on Amiga history.
-
Please forgive my lack of knowledge but who was Darreck Lisle and what did he do?
Unfortunately, you're not alone. Most people left in the community are equally newbies and just never understood what the Amiga was about.
Darreck Lisle was officially the Community Relations person for Gateway's Amiga Inc. He was -- as I recall -- also the networking guy and about a zillion other things. Unlike Bill McEwen and "Fleecy" Moss who were merely contractors, he was actually employed by Gateway's Amiga Inc at their corporate offices in South Dakota.
I first contacted Darreck in 1997 with the business proposal for the User Group Network (UGN). He was the one that got us full support (or at least as much as he could) including the hardware, software, transportation, and ability to broadcast shows. He also got us a year's hosting at a major ISP and worked very, very hard to support the Amiga community as a whole.
For his trouble, he took a LOT of heat from Gateway and certain members of the community over his brief two year stint. He also earned the hatred of the current Amiga Inc management -- who as much as I can figure, resented the fact that he's the only one who ever got anything pushed ahead.
Ask Tigger, Ask ltstanfo, ask Kermit Woodall, ask tekmage, ask anyone you want, but Darreck is *the man* where supporting the Amiga community is concerned.
I know from painful first-hand experience that Bill McEwen isn't interested in supporting the community, but if Bill Buck ever asks me for one piece of advice, it would simply be to hire Darreck Lisle on the spot -- if he's interested after all the spit that Gateway and the current Amiga Inc put him through.
-
@Targhan
re: history
Not a bad idea. I'll kick it around. :-)
-
@Wayne
You're quite wrong there. Bill and Fleecy are VERY interested in supporting the community. No offense intended but, you don't believe it or see it because you've got blinders on.
-
@Ray
This is not the thread for your life-support agenda. Like I said, I was not inviting your opinion, nor feedback on the subject. You forget, I have lived with his lack of interest in supporting the community, I'm not just making this up as I go along. His hosting of Amiga.org was in his best interest, not that of the community. These are also the facts as many people (not just me) see them.
Tread carefully because you're now borderline on calling many, many people who cared about the Amiga a liar.
You, working as a contractor for Amiga Inc are the one with the questionable motive for your continual defensive tactics and trolling.
-
Happy Birthday Amiga.org
-
Congratulations Wayne. I've been here for around five of those years, so the site can't be too bad :-) (actually, it's my favourite Amiga newsy site)
Re: Darreck. I recognised the name as soon as I read it, but couldn't recall anything else (but then I have trouble remembering what I did yesterday). If he has done all you say, then that's great. Certainly things were buzzing and moving fast with AI under Gateway - or least appearing to - and a lot of interest in the Amiga was generated. Something which the current AI have failed to replicate, but it is better to ensure the there is a product out first especially considering all the non-starters of the last ten years (or however long it has been now - I've lost count).
Here's to the next year and an AmigaOne with OS4 (or a Pegasos with MorphOS, but personally I'll be going for the former) :pint:
Hmm.. that should be a wine glass but you get the idea.
Chris
-
Well congrats from me too.. It's a long timeand lot have happened. I hope things look better in next year. Keep the good work going..
Joanna
And some :pint: :pint: :pint: :pint:
-
@Wayne
Hey, if you don't want my comments, don't solicit them by making your situation apply to everyone who has contact (or in your case, lack of same) with Amiga. For as many Wayne Hunt's as there are in this situation, there are many others of opposing opinion.
Regardless of our differences in opinion, I still do congratulate you on another year and hope you and amiga.org see many more. There's no need to see this thread turn into another downward spiral when this should be good news.
Cheers.
-
@wayne
Ok then.
-
@Paul
Lay off -- I said..... This is not the thread for that
-
Many thanks Wayne, moderators and everyone else.
This site was a big factor in returning me to things Amiga! Be that a good thing or not. ;-)
This is by far one of my favourite sites. Keep up the good work.
:pint:
