Hi Everyone,
I really need some help with my 1200. I appear to be having some weird boot problems. It has so far manifested it self like this:
1. Computer does its first boot and reboot (OS3.9) but then does not carry on booting. A warm reset does not "clear" the problem.
2. It boots partially into Workbench. 2 of my 4 Partition icons appear (Workbench and Games dont) and the Title bar is shown but computer freezes up.
3. Using my Emergency boot disk gives a similar results to No.2 - but I have the extra floopy & CD Icons displayed.
I have tried using no-startup sequence and have been able to get into the "basic Workbench" that way (I.e. LoadWB & Endcli) a couple of times. All drive Icons are displayed and clicking on the icons causes no problems.
lately however when I plug in the LoadWB command it brings up a requester saying that it cant open 'rx' and freezes up the whole computer.
I can see using Cli that all my Partitions are ok as they display ok under the dir command. I have checked my CPU and Memory with CPU and Avail and they appear to be beiong recognised ok.
Does anyone have any idea why this may be happening?
I havent installed any software lately that would cause this and both my Startup-sequence and user-startup look ok (using ED under no startup sequence)
Thanks,
AmiBoy

Thinking of a hardware problem.
Maybe PSU or a bad contact with the mediator.
Check the pci cards for connection.
Push the MACH chips in the mediator "bridge".
Reseat the mediator bridge.
Try with a worbench 3.1 disk to see what happens then.

Hmm,
The can't load rx seems to point to some arexx scripts being unable to load.
check the boot:libs directrory and confirm that arexx libraries are there. Specifically rexxmathlib.library, rexxsupport.library and rexxsyslib.library.
also check that the following files are in either the c or rexxc directory:
rx, rxc, rxset, tcc, tco, te, ts, hi, rxlib and WaitForPort.
Cheers

There is a possibility that it could be the hard drive is corupted. If this is the case you may need to replace it with another one reinstall your workbench and see if that works then at least you can still salvage what is on the other drive.

Hi Amiboy,
This sounds like something that struck me a few years back. I had 1 partition dedicated to caching Ibrowse files (inages, cookies, etc) from the internet. That partition became corrupted (power outage, or lost connection or something) and it strangely affected all other partitions of that hard drive, including the one I booted from. I can't remember, but it seems that I had to reformat all partitions to get back to normal. I now only cache internet files to the Ram Disk:, seems to work just as well and who needs a permanent record of those files anyway. It probavly doesn't matter, but, what filesystem are you using?
