I have a small network consisting of two PCs with winXP SP2. One of them is acting as a gateway and connected to the internet via an adsl modem. The gateway shares the internet-connection to the other computer via the built-in internet-connection sharer.
The problem is that the client can´t access the files on the gateway. Vice versa is Ok though. I suppose this has to do with SP2 because I never had this problem with SP1.
Note that these are two fresh, newly installed XP-systems.
The IP of the gateway is: 192.168.0.1 Client 192.168.0.2
any suggestions anyone?

Sounds like the SP2 firewall is blocking you. If you have a hardware firewall set up then you might try turning it off to test.

Did you check to see if XP SP2 Firewall is blocking the file shares? Is Filesharing setup on the GW? Maybe SP2 firewall blocks file sharing on a Internet connection Gateway for security purposes.
Just guessing ;-)

have you checked your firewall settings. in sp2 the firewall is on by default and if not set properly then the gateway won't respond. try turning the firewall off and attempt a connection. if this works(heck even if it don't) then try running the networking wizard again on both computers to assure the settings are correct.

it don't.

Question are you using simple sharing or advanced sharing.

Seems like it was the firewall that was creating the problem. Thanx for the help everyone. I wouldn´t even guess the problem was that easy to solve.

I have a suggestion that you might have aready implemented.. Don't TURN off that firewall, just go into the security center control panel and click on the icon at the bottom for the firewall then another window will appear that has three tabs General, Exceptions, and Advanced..
Click on exceptions and check the file and print sharing box to enable file and print sharing. There is much much to much risk out there to turn that firewall off even in a peer to peer situation with connection sharing..
