Title: Music-X & Workbench Font Issue
Post by: musicxman on December 04, 2005, 08:11:28 PM
Hope this isn't too mundane for the gurus on the site... It's been almost 13 years since I booted up my Amiga, and much to my surprise... everything was normal... Kickstart 1.3 followed by Workbench 1.3, then Music-X. BUT...when I clicked on Music-X it loaded up to the splash with MicroIllusions then asked for Workbench 1.3... seemed like it used to do that, but not sure. It ground a little bit and then ERROR: Can't find font:
'MXsymbols.font/7' I chose OK, and it dumped me out to the Workbench screen. I rebooted using a different Kickstart and a different Workbench disk, and a different Music-X disk, got the same results. What's up, anybody know? I have, for whatever they are worth, dozens of songs that I would like to try to revive the MIDI files from... help....   If there is another program that will read Music-X files, that's cool too, I just want to get them ported to MIDI streams with the channel and note info intact.

You need to boot directly from the Music X disk rather than the Workbench disk.  That is use kickstart then the Music-X disk.  The Music-X disk has it's own workbench stuff, you don't need the Workbench disk to use it.

Hope this helps.

EDIT:

I should probably expand on this explaination.  Basically because you aren't booting from the Music X disk the system is not aware of the fonts in the Music X fonts drawer, it is searching in the Workbench fonts drawer for them.
