Title: Eproms for sale
Post by: Amiduffer on December 01, 2005, 06:21:43 AM
Hi guys. I saw a bunch of various Eprom chips at Al Lashers electronic store, and if you're in need of some, go to their website http://www.allashers.com/

I remember a 2091 board in my old A2000 needed Eproms. Why do they have that hole in the middle?

EPROM is a special type of memory chip that retains its contents until it is exposed to ultraviolet light thru the window on top of the chip. The ultraviolet light clears its contents, making it possible to reprogram the memory. To write to and erase an EPROM, you need a special device called a PROM  programmer or PROM burner.

@Amiga4k:

you got a bit confused: To erase the EPROM you need UV light, to program it you need an EPROM programmer. A PROM programmer, most certanly would program older devices, like those PROMs in the 74S series, but not limited to.
The window is made of quartz, because it is transparent to a range of UV radiation.

don't forget to cover that window to protect it from sun light..
which reminds me of yellowing plastics, is there some glass that would block UV but still be transparent? shame we have to hide those nice Amigas  :roll:
