So the sister to the Beast is a desktop A4000 with a cyberstorm PPC/060 card in her. She has this funny problem: nothing in backgrounds. That means no matter what i do in Preferences I get nothing for a background in any window including workbench. The buttons depress and the menus drop down and I select a nice background and say 'test' or 'use' and it blinks and nothing happens. I tried going into MUI and getting somthing there to show up and nothing happens. I am looking at various image formats, maybe missing a datatype, maybe some switch somewhere is switched wrong... any ideas? This happened awhile back when all the pictures I selected came out in like greyscale only more mauve than grey and stretched out as well, but since then I fiddled with the cpu and added a Picasso, but the background problem happened before the Picasso came so it's something else, perhaps with MUI? It's registered and all but can't seem to save any settings. I installed it more than once, just in case... maybe screwed something up, but why blank window backgrounds?

Are you using IFF/LBM images, or JPGs? Might be something wrong with the datatypes.

I'm using every kind of image possible, starting with the ones that come with the OS. Even the patterns will not come up, not just pictures I scan. The windows all have the same pale color as workbench. This happened before I got the new PicassoII card, so it's something in the basic setup. I'd hate to think it was the Cyberstorm, that wouldn't make a lot of sense. I don't know enough about MUI, but although I have a registered copy none of the buttons, patterns or other changes to the system that I try to use through MUI come up either. I get the basic vanilla screens and windows. Peculiar.
I'm tempted to install OS 3.9 and see what happens. When I installed it into the Beast (A4KT '060) the change was so colorful I rather liked it, although most of my best progs broke. sigh.
I used to know an ultra-geek who would come and sit in front of the machine until it did what he told it, even long after I had given up and gone to bed. Now he's gone over to Winblows (can ya believe it?)The SOB even gave away his A3000.... not to me, though. I suppose he figured I should be happy with the five Amigas I have already.
