Title: AOS3.9 FAQ = where is this file ???
Post by: xaccrocheur on April 02, 2003, 03:45:46 PM
guys, a file is mentionned in the FAQ, that I can't put my pointer on :

Question 10 :
Q: "scsi.device" from DEVS:AmigaOS ROM Update is installed
unneccessarily, which erroneously overwrites some third-party controller
software calling itself "scsi.device". Is there a workaround for this?
(Controllers affected: Buddha, Catweazel IDE, X-Surf IDE, IDEfix
Express). A:
    * Solution for X-Surf IDE / GVP SCSI:
o Type the following from a Shell window:
            MakeDir Emergency-Disk:Expansion
            Copy CLONE SYS:Expansion/XSurfIDE Emergency-Disk:Expansion
            (for the GVPSCSI, type:
            Copy CLONE SYS:Expansion/gvpscsi Emergency-Disk:Expansion)
o Add "BindDrivers" after SetPatch to the
"Emergency-Disk:S/Startup-Sequence" file

##

# Why is he asking me to create a dir that already exists ?

# Just what is this "gvpscsi" mentionned, and most of all, WHERE is it ? Can somebody post it to me ? That would pretty much make my day, no wait, my MONTH

# What is this FAQ, Am I missing something ? it makes multiples references to files that I *don't have* !

I bought OS3.9 from power comp. Seems that this FAQ addresses a totally different product...

# Should it come with a manual ? There was just a CD, at 1st it did not surptise me but then again I saw pictures of BOXED OS3.5, does it contain a printed manual ? Are there such versions of OS3.9 ?

Thank you !!

You can find gvpscsi Here  (http://www.gvp-m.com) but its only needed for GVP scsi products.

I've got 3.5 and 3.9.
3.5 came boxed with a printed installation manual and, optionally, ROM chips.
3.9 came in just a standard jewel case, though I have seen box art for it online somewhere. A box may have been planned, and then canceled to cut costs. 3.9 has an installation manual too.

The OS manuals are in HTML on the CD. They're nearly identical to the Commodore books.

As for the FAQ, I think it's basically just telling you how to remount drives that are on the GVPscsi ports or the Xsurf ports. Normally, the drives are mounted from these files in SYS:Expansion during the standard startup-sequence. Emergency booting, they won't be, so they need to be copied to the Emergency Disk's Expansion drawer.

You don't need to worry about it unless you have drives on the Xsurf or GVP ports.
