My HP Pavilion just croaked for good, and darned if I'm going to put any money into it. This time when it comes time to buy something, it'll be to upgrade my Amiga stuff. Can't count how many PeeCee's I,ve had croak, but my old Amiga is still going like the Energizer Wabbit. Must say something for "old" technology eh? Anyhow, I need some advice on software upgrades for my Miggy. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Art

What have you got so far and what are you willing to spend? :-D

You could get a iMac G5, they are cheap and cool! Of course, Amigas are awesome, but you will need a lot of ca$h to get something modern.

for a start a ppc card (A1200/A3000/4000) and a gfx card and 64 MB ram would just do the the trick :-D

Thank's all for responding! Sorry it took a couple days to check on my post, but retail work and holidays don't leave much time. Right now I've got an A2000, '060 Blizzard with 128 meg ram,ECS chips,Cybergraphics card, hard disk and cdrom drive, all running on OS3.9 with both boing bags installed. Also got my original A1000 and an A3000 from ebay. The 3000 is pretty much bone stock. I really like my A2000, for my purposes it's fast enough I guess. I'd like to improve the looks of the Workbench and icons if I can, so many great looking pics of other peoples machines. I know there's a lot of enhancement software out there, I just don't know what's a "must have" and what's a "can do without". Any advice on that bunch of rambling? Thanks again in advance. Best regards...Art

There's is as you say a lot of options, both in eyecandy and functionality. Eye-candy wise the 2 "essentials" are VisualPrefs and Birdie2k, but personally I also use other things like PowerWindowsNG (which lets you drag windows out of screen as well as a bunch of other stuff), beautifonts (anti -aliased fonts), AA (another anti aliasing font patch (neither is perfect, but both together works ok)). There's also of course MUI, defiantely worth registering in my opinion. PowerIcons is another popular one, which gives the user the ability to use 32bit color png icons, but you lose the 2nd icon image. Personally I prefer to use a nice set on glow icons (kens icons atm), which can look 95% as good as png icons if done right, and you get to keep the 2nd image. Each to thier own though. Another thing which has popped up very recently is AfA OS, which adds a few extra features to AOS3.x (proper anti aliased fonts and alpha channel for datatypes for example).

Artman do yourself a favor and sell all the parts on ebay and get a Pegasos and run MorphOS. It will give you the "Amiga" you have always wanted. With the left over money you can get an iMac G5 and will wonder why you havent done this sooner. I myself have had an Amiga for many many years. I got the first A1000 in my area when they came out, then got the first A3000 here as well. When OS X came out I switched to Macs and NEVER owned a PC. When the Pegasos II came out I sold off my very upgraded A3000 and I am very happy with MorphOS. Its the Amiga that should have been!

@ACILL
You think I could get enough out of my A2000 to get into a complete Pegasos? Don't know anything about them except what I've heard here at A.org, never really thought about going to a new machine. But I'd like to hear more. Thanks for the input! Best regards...Art

@Tomas
Hi Tomas, thanks for getting in on this, the more input the better, 'cause I know absolutely nothing about the new machines. Would really like to know more though. Regards...Art

Indeed, OS4 compatability has only One "working" contender and that's the A1, perhaps if we had some real idea of timescale with OS4 and some updates on Dragon, Amy 05 etc...we could make a more informed choice. I would go for A1 in your position.
