IS it just me or is this logo a little too close to the Amiga's?
The OS is a Linux distro btw with a custom Desktop system

Cool looking OS, I rather like the concepts they are using!!!
-
Agreed. It does look very inspired by the Amiga logo.
Hopefully the GUI for this distro is also Amiga inspired :)

Looks more like the member ranking images used here on amiga.org ;-)
-
Well, it does look inspired, but it's not that difficult to create 2 white and 2 red squares and turn them x degrees.
For that matter the creator might be croatian, or polish or danish. Or just one who like checkered patterns...
But it sure looks quite a bit Amiga inspired.
-
Forget about the logo... The OS is what's interesting!!!
-
As i looked to the pictures at thier site i must say that i do like the AmigaOS more.

Can it boot right off a single DD floppy?

AROS can... oops old habits ;-)

It sure does look Amiga inspired.........trust me.if this was WIndows or Mac OS logo similarity....people would know and there would be a lawsuit.
But also Windows XP has a Picture icon that looks like a Boingball except only 4 checkers.....I would stay away from that stuff as it would confuse people.
-
Wow! I just looked at the Logo again! it is definitely an Amiga Ripoff!! I will proove it!!!
Look at this link:
http://www.symphonyos.com/beta1-ss/6.png
Notice that not only does it have the red and white checkers. but it is also a Square and also tilted at the same exact angle as the Red square above the letter "i" in the Word Amiga! no one agles a square at such a weird angle.
It is basically a comination of 2 Amiga logos.the Boing Ball and the Red Square.............think about it.if you were going to mix the Boing ball with the Square.this is what it would look like!
They are stupid for doing this.........they will cause people to think it has soemthing to do with AmigaOS and not even give this OS a chance.
Someone needs to contact Amig Inc.

Pretty soon people will be saying that chessboards, chequred flags at forumla 1 racing gigs etc. are all nicking the amiga logo / style.
-
Actually, I think it looks like a marriage of the Amiga boingball and the Windows window symbol (eek!)
-
Here is their other logo wich lost in the Polls:

And why would anyone think there is any marketing value left in Amiga logos?
-
Hehe..I agree with the windows/amiga style as Argus mentioned :) I dont think this is any copyright problem, there shouldnt be atleast IMHO.

Ahem, seriously now...
I haven't tried the Mezzo desktop which they're using, but judging from the descriptive screenshots they have uploaded here (http://homepage.mac.com/jasonspisak/Mezzo/PhotoAlbum4.html), I don't think I'd like it.
Some of the points that are held up as "features" that I'd like to call "flaws":
- "Bumper boarders" (sic!). You can't move any part of a window across the desktop borders. Highly annoying, useless, space wasting and counterproductive, IMO.
- The special "Targets" (the "Computer", "Programs", "Documents" et c. "menus") fill the entire desktop when opened and hides any windows you have open. Idiotic, IMO. For example, if you have a text editor or a shell open with some text or info you need for eg. changing settings in "Computer", it seems like you'd have to remember or write down that info on a piece of paper! I also prefer to pick/start programs and run tasks from categorised menus over opening one big cover-all screen. I like to start "favourite" programs from small icons on a taskbar where they're immediately accessible.
- The words "NO CONFIGURATION" appear too often for my liking. I WANT to be able to set up my own programs menu, or change the appearance and order of window gadgets, for example.
It looks like it's more suitable for some sort of specialised kiosk or web management application, rather than a general purpose desktop OS.
